The vast majority of packages don't need extreme security. Personally I don't care about security of my packages at all—they just sit outside my door for me. If one is lost/stolen, Amazon will happily replace it.

I totally agree with this, and I think housing expenses is a really clear example of the impact government policy has on economics: LA and SF have more expensive housing than NYC, despite having worse incomes because they discourage dense d

Seriously, shame on Priceonomics for publishing this blog at all. This is textbook selection bias: of course people who need online personal loans are going to have different financial profiles from the average.

This has been a long time coming. Etsy always struck me as a company which was fundamentally a small business. They were never going to be an e-commerce giant and should have focused on keeping headcount manageable from the start. Instead I

Ageism flows both ways. I recently had a landlord demand that I get a guarantor for signing a lease even though I make well over 40x the rent (the typical requirement). It's clearly because he (an elderly man) considers me (a young guy

That's not strictly true. Depending on the company, it's very possible for mere engineers to have access to material non-public information. There's a reason many companies impose broad blackout dates on trading.
