You still haven't proven that immigration is the cause of this particular wage stagnation. You want to believe it is, but you haven't given evidence. Is there proof that non-immigrants even want to do this work? The well-known cas

I'm not sure why we would accept that assumption. Isn't it just as likely that one scooter rider is one less bus rider, train passenger or walker? In those cases, overall road congestion increases.

Growing the pie has always helped everyone in America. Is there something that has fundamentally changed in your view to alter this trend? Are there Americans out there who want to do these types of jobs?

Immigration is at generationally low levels, I don’t see how you could blame it for lack of wage increases. What about the stagnant minimum wage, record corporate profits or union busting; might they play a role? “American society” and “our

What do you do before your assumed feedback loop takes hold? Wouldn’t all the new scooter riders take up a lot of that real estate on the road? How will the road operate with both autonomous and non-autonomous vehicles sharing space?

How do you handle the increased demand without even more dedicated infrastructure for roads? How much cheaper is it than dedicated infrastructure for buses and rails which have far more capacity?

I don’t think that people disagreeing with you is a failure of social media. If you walk into a bar in an area where HN readers tend to live (San Fran, NYC, Seattle, Austin, Denver, Chicago) you would likely get a similar response.

I wonder what percentage of the current population would be unable to attend school under your model. If you couldn’t get a loan, you couldn’t attend or you would have currency exchange level interest rates for the poor. Other countries hav

The rub is what “more competitive” actually means. I get the feeling lots of people think it means lower taxes, but limited government also hurts a company’s ability to hire educated employees if lack of funding hurts education.

The system is perfectly logical, the more you pay in over your career (based on income), the more you receive annually upon retirement. The real question is whether this is the optimal setup for broader society.

You make very valid points about determining the actual outcome we prefer and channeling solutions to achieve them. There is some nuance. For example, a $5k tax credit might help me level the playing field today, but that $5k difference sti
