This is, bluntly, dumb. The only way you can justify having UBI be below poverty is if you don’t accept any of the philosophy or studies of how UBI actually works and stick with the long-since disproven approach of “let people starve”. Geo-

Except, as pointed out, a lot of the tech was literally developed at Google. It’s like Xerox Labs all over again.

I was thinking “$800m sounds like a lot” but then I realised I was thinking in terms of a stock’s market depth. You’d need a LOT more than that to move the Euro.

The funny thing is this has already happened. They erected a platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross. The only problem being that a) it doesn’t even vaguely correspond to the description in the book and b) in fact, from the description it’s like

I had a think about how you could best deal with this and then realised I was probably just designing a worse Nix. I think, unfortunately, the Debian model just can’t scale to the sheer volume of what it’s being asked to do. And, as pointed

a) As with all of this material, it's stuff they chose not to publish, even later on b) Unlike "Free as a Bird", this one has been done with no sympathy for the original sound. It just sounds weird with those modern compresse

My take is that the Republican Party is in such a great position of power now that splits are inevitable. To date, the famous Republican lock-step unity has been in everyone’s interest because otherwise they lose to Democrats. But if you ha

One thing that scientists have learned over the last year is that facts and honesty don’t help. There are many financially motivated people trying their best to keep the temperature rising unchecked, and they know that complex, nuanced mess

At most firms that employ > 20 people, there are _plenty_ of people who make powerful, serious contributions to their firm and the CEO will never know who they are.

A footnote to this is that ClojureScript bet heavily on the Closure compiler, at a time when, IIRC, it wasn't even open sourced. In particularly, it was not just a bet on the technology, but the underlying methodology, so ClojureScript

Speaking as someone who is very good at these questions: they’re not a good predictor of dev capability. They are, however, pretty good at determining if you put several weeks of work in. Which you might think is a good proxy for determinat

So I know _nothing_ about Rust, but I know Tasks in C# and one of the most important concepts is that a variable can be “async local” i.e. local to the async “thread”. So I wonder if the problem is that rust doesn’t have a lifetime specific
