Great question. I’m wondering the same. According to Wikipedia: > in Europe it operates at the 868-869 MHz band while in North America the band varies from 908-916 MHz when Z-Wave is operating as a mesh network and 912-920 MHz when Z-Wav

I dunno, that’s a pretty cynical take. Isn’t it just as plausible that they became aware of the bribes internally and were trying to curtail them when the scandal broke out? Or maybe the “don’t do bribes” training actually worked enough fo

Right. The other thing is that the parent claims to be an insider which is great- I love that perspective. However, as outsiders maybe the researchers did the best they could with what data was available to them. After reading the blog arti

That was my first thought too. I looked at the Firefly product and it seemed to say they don’t use your personal data. They have other “AI” products through like GenStudio that’s “coming soon” and I don’t see any “ethical ai” section in its

I want to believe you but now I have to trust your claims over what the NYT, etc are publishing. In order to do that I not only need to follow your sources but the original sources that NYT etc define to ensure they are the same. I also hav

I second this. Mobile is how I primarily read news. IMO it should be the first platform you support.

I had something like this from a temp job that was liquidating old hardware. They were Northgate PCs and they had two extended 32-bit ISA slots that were giant memory cards. I’m pretty sure the platform was i386.

Since I’m not familiar with City Journal I decided to see who runs it because that headline seemed pretty biased. From the site’s footer: > City Journal is a publication of the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research (MI), a leading free

It’s hard to tell. According to Wikipedia, DOS 4.0 is different than 4.00 > MS-DOS 4.0 (multitasking) and MS-DOS 4.1 – A separate branch of development with additional multitasking features, released between 3.2 and 3.3, and later abando

Of course it’s leadership that makes the call. At any large company sales and marketing have a huge influence on the leadership and therefore the product. The engineering teams that align with those goals will get the best funding and will

IIRC confidence in video is related to predicting what happens next vs what actually happens. If the two seem to correlate to the model it would give it a higher confidence ranking, which would then be used further for self-reinforced learn

I would argue that the main function of the TSA is to ensure the public feels safe flying. As long as the public perceives that the TSA is making it “safe enough” to fly it has value, regardless of its actual effectiveness.

I don’t think it matters. While it would have been interesting if the rats got pleasure looking at themselves, ultimately this is an art project about human society that is meant for human consumption. The fact that we read about it means i

There are a few things going on that I’m aware of. It’s usually related to disk. - Windows update can take a lot of blame for this. Basically the longer the Windows release has been out, the more windows updates there are. After every boot

I used to do this, but then I had to move and I moved my domain to Gmail “temporarily” so I could still get email while waiting for my isp at the new location. Short story is that I don’t miss the cognitive overhead and I’m still on Gmail.

It’s encrypted between the starting point (Microsoft) and your ISP. Microsoft is the “client” in this case and just like you can read your email in Outlook or Thunderbird, MS can read all of your email that they pull over from you ISP.

I’m going to be honest with you. I too used to be pedantic like this until one day I realized it’s really fucking annoying. Now let me tell you why you are wrong. :) I’m fine with “occurred”. Because of causality the event had absolutely no

There’s a theory that the birth of our universe looks eerily similar to what might happen inside a black hole when it’s first formed. Fun to think about. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_hole_cosmology

I’m not really arguing that. I’m saying there is a trade-off between having the common OS feature set described above (Ctrl/Cmd-select, etc) and implementing/iterating a web/mobile product quickly. Often standard UI paradigms

I can’t help but feel that Agile is at least partly to blame for this. Things like you are describing usually don’t come under the “minimum viable product” purview and thus get pushed out indefinitely until the product is at the “very matur
