What’s to prevent the spammer from creating their own low cost LLM for dealing with responses? I can see these conversations going on for years until someone on one side or the other forces it to stop.

FTA: > And within these theories it’s often necessary to go beyond points and particles to think about one-dimensional lines, or strings (which are conceptually distinct from the strings in string theory).

Look up what is code for plumbing. It can be difficult to find what is code unless if you are a member of IAPMO.

Aha. Yes I just have the above ground type. The only person I’ve met with an in-ground type wasn’t satisfied with his either but I figured that was because he was retrofitting it into an older home.

As the owner of a 20 year old heat pump in Minnesota I disagree. It does great for the temp range it’s programmed to run in.

I’m not sure if you’re being literal or figurative, but most heat pump installations using forced air share everything with the furnace so there is no “side”. My thermostat just has a setting to use the NG furnace when it’s colder than X.

Ok yeah I only have 16 devices but I have 188 entities - I haven’t had any issues with sensors except with a power mains reader that didn’t support zwave+. After I removed that everything has been great. I also have a Zigbee network of abou

Sounds like you had some non-zwave+ devices or you were using a lot of s0 encryption. Both are known to slow down the network. Like everything it’s gotten better over time. The 700 series stuff is pretty quick.

Definitely. The important thing is to not hide the facts. In a counter example sometimes a botched procedure can lead to suicide (if the person is in too much pain for example). That should probably count as a fatal medical error but I doub

As I get older I see more and more of “reducing gov’t waste” as a means to funnel money into private individuals’ pockets. See also for-profit prisons, charter schools, bussing, medical care, etc etc.

I normally don’t say things like this, esp. on HN- This is disgusting. No good can come from it.

My parents recently bought a Roku TV which indeed had to be connected to the internet. They didn’t care about any smart features they just wanted a cheap TV to watch the local news on. Trying to watch plain OTA TV stations was unbearable

Potentially. You could put a dangerously high or low amount of air in the tire and then tell the car, “this is fine”.

My take is that the game really shows how destructive someone can be by monomaniacally exploiting everything to achieve a single goal. The game isn’t about harmony in any way. Sure you can choose to pollute less but after you become strong

I’ve ran ZFS on Linux, Solaris, and FreeBSD. While I like some of the features it has I wouldn’t run it again on anything that needs decent write speeds. The performance is really sub-par and you need a lot of disks/memory to get over

Thank you for the reply. The article didn’t give details what it how it actually works so I went directly to the company’s site and found this [1] > … leverages light scattering to perform a specific kind of matrix-vector operation calle

I’m totally out of my expertise here but I have a question - from my understanding ray tracing is primarily used for lighting/shadows/reflections- wouldn’t it be OK for something like shadows to be inaccurate- maybe some sort of a

This is only half right. IE was not a decent browser before IE 4 or 5. At that point it became superior to Netscape. The application integration with IE was a mixed bag. Yes it made some cool apps but like the alternative (Java plug-in) it

Run your own git server behind a VPN. It still won’t prevent people from doing deliberately stupid things but will cut down on accidents. If you are super paranoid you air-gap everything.

Just so people aren’t misled - ASCAP is a not-for-profit, it isn’t a government agency. I think a more accurate word for it is “cabal” since most people don’t know much about them and that they often work against (IMO) the public interest.

Yup. I have a strong “fuck you” to ASCAP for charging my favorite small coffee shop insurmountable fees and forcing them to stop having live musical performances. FWIW the musicians played mostly original work. ASCAP has also been actively

Not sure why I got downvoted. I’m trying to offer the poster a viable alternative to CentOS 8 with a minimum of changes needed. I get that a lot of people don’t like Oracle (and for good reasons) but really they are the best alternative (an

Old data doesn’t make it invalid. I think it’s pretty reasonable to assume soil with more nutrients in it results in food with more nutrients in it (at least within a reasonable set of values). I think it’s also worth checking that food tha

This is good advice but not always easy to implement. We have some customers that insist on using IPs instead of DNS (usually because of bad/old software on their side). In our case we have some commercial LBs that can pass the EIP to
