This is probably a popular opinion on HN, but I actually agree. I’ve made things with PHP back when PHP was cool, and then when it wasn’t. I’ve build things with ASP classic, I’ve made my own ASP extensions, then moved to webforms then to m

I’ve met some people with this mentality, and it’s really kind of heartbreaking, because it’s never too late, especially not at 35. Most people who are 35 haven’t even lived half their life, in some countries you’re only half-way to retirem

What a ridiculous list. Amateurs are people without formal training who contribute as a hobby, professionals are trained and get paid for what they do. There isn’t any correlation between the things on that list and amateurs/profession

I think you’re right about the feeling. I know I fit the bill rather perfectly at least. I’ve had an/off preference for Apple products for about 30 years and it’s mainly been driven by branding. I don’t think price has ever been a seri

As I understand it, it’s a range of things. Water and protection from animals, as other mentioned, is a big part of it. But so is growth speed, most trees grow rather slow, but grass, weeds and shrubbery doesn’t. This means that seedlings c

Does this have anything to do with Apple and their walled garden though? To me it sounds more like a business opportunity to make a SSH client and sell it at a realistic one-time fee to people like you (and me by the way) who are sick of su

I think the best way to teach kids about programming is giving them a Micro-Bit and letting them build whatever they want with it. Maybe they want to make games on it, maybe they want to setup a mini weather station, all that’s viable with

These ridiculous prices are common in enterprise, not just the public sector. You just rarely hear about it when a bank spends 100 million on something that should have been build for 10 in the perfect world. One of the reasons you hear abo

We could start by forcing google and Facebook to disclose who paid for what advertising. It’s something a lot of European countries have rather strict laws on, yet, even if you’re in a partnership with Google, you can’t know. If you have a
