I'd argue that if you're spending ~0% of your time with you kids then you're doing it wrong. Something has to come first, and imho if you have kids then the kids need to come first. That means spending as much time as you can with them, b

"Having kids has no impact on having your own business" You're saying that raising children has no impact on your available time and money? That seems a bit far fetched. I'd agree that it's totally possible to have kids and do a startup,

Yeah this seems like a great phase one offering. I'd love to see the features you describe plus maybe some line cleanup (make boxes into boxes), maybe OCR (with PDF return type), etc...

If you don't store it you get to skip Req 3 basically. You still have most of the other 11 Requirements to worry about... Multi-key strong encryption and key rotation isn't that hard... The policies, documentation, and other areas are har

tptacek has this right. Also, to clarify an all too common misconception, if you TAKE credit cards on your site, you STILL need to be PCI compliant, even if you don't STORE credit card numbers. Not storing them gets you out of a few requi

It's uglier in Java: minVal = a < b ? a : b; I never use them, and typically enforce coding standards preventing their use as well. Good code should be easy to read, and if/else blocks are easy to read.

I know a number of Indian, primary out-sourcing, tech companies who employ folks I know as "token white guys". They are technically knowledgeable for sure, but magically there's always one token white guy presented as the project architect

Communication skills are always important in a business, and often if people can write clearly and coherently about a topic it means they understand the topic clearly and coherently.

My company/startup uses iChat AV for video conferencing pretty much daily. Huge fan. My wife uses it with friends and family. My mom and my sister use it several times a week.

I've seen several instances where in order to make really nice JS/AJAX UI interactions and flows also SEO friendly we had to do a lot of extra work. However that work also makes us accessible, so it's not the end of the world....

Bad SEO does that. Good SEO makes it easier for people to find the information they were looking for. It's a race.

The biggest issue is the difference between: SEO=link farming, spamming blogs, generated blogs/sites, etc... SEO=building accessible standards compliant markup, making it easy for people to find content they were actually looking for, etc..

I've taken the approach of selling a service for $250,000/year to a small number of people. The sales cycles are longer, but the customers are very loyal if you provide good service, and it's much easier to support 5-10 clients than 200k c
