It's also the exact opposite of what you want in a certificate authority. You want simple, secure, and dependable, not complex, hard to verify, and easy to game.

Betteridge [0] needs an update. When the headline question is asking whether the authors can do something they can be proud of, the answer is yes. [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betteridge%27s_law_of_headline...

The article describes the 68030 as a 68020 with an added MMU. One of my Amigas a while back had a 68EC030, which is described as a 68030 without the MMU. So, I'm wondering what the difference really is between the 68EC030 and the 68020

So the pseudocode: if (p is not NULL) { dereference p } is UB? That's crazy, but not actually unbelievable.

I don't think it'd be possible to get the compiler to treat unsigned integer overflow as defined using macros. But I'm not a subject matter expert.

I have a suggestion - it may be completely off the wall, but hear me out. C needs a mechanism to declare in a source file that certain behaviour must be defined, where that behaviour is undefined in the C standard but the target architectur

Presumably (and really don't take my word for this - I'm a Java bod) the p dereference needs to come before the p NULL check for the p NULL check to be ignored. (Otherwise, how can a NULL check protect a dereference.) And theref

fork() doesn't actually copy entire pages of memory. But it does have to copy the page tables (note - someone else might be able to chip in and tell me that Linux has an optimisation for that too). The actual pages are held with a copy

You'd then have an explicit early-fail footgun instead of a rake in the grass, which has to be an advantage. However, fork() is still not necessarily a good design, and the reason for that is that the vast majority of the time the reas

I cycled a lot before I learnt to drive. The concept of gears was very firmly in my head by then - all I had to do was learn to good clutch control. If a wrong gear means you are pedalling too fast or too slow, you get the idea very quickly

It's a good choice of location, because you have a decent chunk of Isle of Wight in between the noise of the rocket (and any consequences of rapid unscheduled disassemblies) and populated land.

The problem with redefining instructions to now give defined results where before they were undefined is that software developers might start relying on that defined behaviour, but CPUs from other manufacturers and emulators might still giv

It's probably not even that good a heat storage system. And that's for two reasons. 1. Sand has a lower heat capacity than water. Water is much cheaper than sand. Yes, you can't heat water to 600C, but that's not a p

I have a large American-style fridge/freezer. I measured the power consumption, and it came out as an average of 70W, or 1.68kWh/day. For the size of fridge, this isn't bad. However, I was slightly surprised to see that this
