It'd be nice, sure. But regular deep cycles is precisely what lead-acid is not good at. Having said that, LiIon isn't that good at surviving deep discharge either, although it is better than lead-acid. A battery management syste

I wouldn't knock lead-acid for UPS use. That (and turning starter motors) is what lead-acid is particularly suitable for. They're also really effectively recycled right now.

While the gadget that adjusts the flow return temperature is a great idea, it basically means that the radiators in the house aren't big enough. Either the radiators were installed in an age where condensing boilers were unusual and th

If a nuclear warhead is intercepted, it generally doesn't detonate. It requires a very carefully-timed and managed sequence of events to make a warhead detonate, deliberately so.

The "sleep 10 seconds" solution isn't robust enough. Consider if you have created a snapshot on the filesystem. That snapshot has to keep hold of all the data, so when you delete files, the amount of free space doesn't c

I just rebooted my EeePC. It had an uptime of 5.8 years. I only rebooted it to upgrade from Debian 9 to Debian 10, and I'll bump it up to Debian 11 later on. It has a broken screen, so it just sits on top of a cupboard with a couple of

I was the right age to learn about the enormous potential of deep sea mining by reading Willard Price. Actually, looking at when Underwater Adventure was written, I could have been born any year and still learn about it by that method.

Ok, but let's not fool ourselves that this is to save the mains electric grid from the power used to charge these things. This is for convenience, not environmentalism. The amount of power used by headphones is tiny. Which is lucky, be
