This is cool. CO2 emissions are 36B tons per year. At $100 per ton, it would cost $3.6T to offset assuming you could build enough of these plants. At 4000 tons per year we’d need to build 9 million of these plants.

One thing that’s not mentioned is what error there is in the theoretical calculation and what is the measurement error. From the theoretical POV I’d expect the theory to have an upper and lower limit based on values from initial assumption

I’m not sure it’s the length of our actual lifespan that matters as much as how we experience the passing of time. I believe that our human experience of the passing of time intervals is exponential with age. With this view, if we lived 1

My son’s E-bike was stolen. I hid an air tag inside the frame and tracked it to a house. Police came and helped me recover it. There are few things as satisfying as catching a thief.

According to Wikipedia the Latin name was given for a reason. * Historically the ceremonial consumption often included vomiting, and Europeans deduced that yaupon caused it (hence the Latin name - Ilex vomitoria).[11] The active ingredients

How are you so certain? The voice was only changed 2 days ago. I think you and several other commenters have totally missed the point. In a causal situation, I’m not going to do a side by side comparison or a spectrogram of the voice. I

China aggression was largely the reason India pursued nuclear weapons. From Wikipedia: India's loss to China in a brief Himalayan border war in October 1962, provided the New Delhi government impetus for developing nuclear weapons as

Another interesting angle is power consumption. The brain consumes about 20W so that’s ~200pW/neuron. The GPU is 4 orders of magnitude worse at ~2uW/neuron. The brain also does much more than a GPU. I’m not sure what percentag

A photon is indivisible that’s the quantum nature of light. You aren’t reflecting a part of it. To do so is a classical wave interpretation of light. The photon after reflection is not the same photon.

As an American, I find the British truly tiring when it comes to this topic. To be clear it’s not all Brits. If you notice it’s always a small group of whiners complaining. As long as they insist on spelling everything the French way,

The more that we learn about the evolution of Earth as a planet, the more I think that the development of complex life is an exceedingly low probability event. So many things had to go “just right” for conditions on Earth to allow the for

I think the impact of these things is overstated. Salaries in Canada are pretty low compared to the US and cost of living is pretty similar. When you factor in the climate, it’s hard to see how Canada comes out ahead. I’d think Canada
