I agree, it's very petty. Engineers should keep their personal vendettas out of business.

On top of that, the justification seems more like a baseless rant, citing only one blog post as a source. Ranting engineers should not make business decisions.

I don't really understand this. Work is usually prioritized. If it has low stakes for delivery into production then it should have a lower priority than other activities, but that doesn't make it a side project.

This is an exception. In almost every other use case the mini will give you more screen estate.

That puts Apple silicon at a disadvantage, not in a different class of computing.

For a very small niche. 99% of customers don't care. They want a laptop that runs Spotify, Chrome, Outlook, Slack, VS Code, etc.

Your reasoning is starting with the wrong premise. As if people are looking for x86 or ARM machines. I would rather say people are in the market for something to write their thesis on, write some code or do creative work. MacBooks and Windo

Just book a hotel. Same price, less hassle.

In my experience, Airbnb is more risky than booking a hotel, and also not really cheaper. I don't even look at Airbnb anymore these days.

Not really though. It's way more important to know what skills you lack. If you can't sell, make sure someone is with you for the ride who can. Sometimes these problems can easily be solved.

I still wonder though, as their presentations are not slick at all. It's usually incomprehensible copy/paste work without a clear message.

I honestly don't get why CEOs would bother worrying about this stuff. How can you make the big important decisions if you allow yourself to be distracted by micromanagement?

This happens so much in education, and specifically academics. A lot of theoretical explanations without stepping back from theory and going back to reality once in a while to ponder about the implications. I passed a lot of courses by memo

Are you sure there is no survivorship bias at play here? I've seen more projects fail due to overengineering for future scenarios that never materialized than due to lack of scalability.

I half agree here. Especially in Python applications, so often you so a class that is instantiated only once. I'm not sure if this is overly usage of OOP or DRY, but defining a whole class just to be instantiated once seems like a very

Sorry about that. Non-technical coworkers are just people with probably the same goal as you. Talking about management in this specific way tells me that they see their management coworkers as enemies, and not as equals. I don't think

You are absolutely right. Also on the part that it makes sense that you don't know since a lot of the information you receive isn't necessarily relevant to you as an engineer. If something is unclear, the normal path forward is to

This advice is wrong on so many levels. All the engineers do the True Work, everyone else is just bullshitting. Yeah sure. Could it be that you don't understand their jobs in the same way "they" don't understand your job

If you don't understand something, just ask questions. You'd be surprised how often you'll get a useful answer if you ask a relevant question! If someone hosts a meeting about a transformation strategy, it's probably bec

The fact that you're talking about "management" as some separate evil entity and not you coworkers who just want to help you and live their lives happily ever after, in the same way as you do, tells me a lot.

Sure it's possible. You can also program in assembly instead of Java. But you'll soon be creating your own abstraction layer, why not use one that is very thin too and battle tested by millions of users?

Apparently you have never built a webapp that is more ambituous than a simple website. The superpower of "modern" frameworks (Vue and React are both 5-10 years old) is abstracting away from the DOM to be able to define your view a

I wonder why the tips mentioned in your talk are not applied to the article. As you said, engineers looking to improve their writing skills don't want to read a novel.
