Interesting. Thanks for those numbers. I'd be interested in trying some real-world applications myself.

"While it does not have the aggressive optimization stance (or complexity) of larger compilers such as LLVM or gcc, its output is often not too far off: the same paper showed Cranelift generating code that ran ~2% slower than V8 (Turbo

LLVM is a trap. You bootstrap extra fast, you get all sorts of optimization passes and platforms for free, but you lose out on the ability to tune the final optimization passes and performance of the linking stages. I think we'll see c

I used it briefly and then researched it and it seemed like at the time (mid-2000s), nobody could say which of the menagerie of components of the coal tar was actually the effective one. I stopped pretty much at that point.

This might be one of those cures that works like the old T-Gel shampoo (ie: carcinogenic coal tar that turned out to be immune-suppressing enough to prevent dandruff eventually caused cancer). Though, at the ages when Osteoarthritis shows u

I forgot that I had made this until seeing it, but I have a very basic 14-segment font editor for a project I've been meaning to pick up again at some point. https://github.com/mmastrac/gpsclock Font JSON file too

Interesting that models still evolve fast enough that dedicated model-specific hardware isn't a big contender right now. We're still seeing major scaling gains on mostly generic platforms.

This is interesting. I would be curious to try a setup where I keep a local hybrid cache and transition blocks to deep storage for long-term archival via S3 rules. Some napkin math suggests this could be a few dollars a month to keep a few

AliExpress has a beautiful 7" screen for peanuts. It has a surprisingly clear display and has so many uses: https://youtu.be/LC3INaZVqFA?si=2BV5N3_7TtWPRlUj It even has USB power and speakers.

This is the first time I've ever seen a macOS update and not seen a single feature worth bothering to upgrade over. Is there anything developer-facing? I don't use any Apple ecosystem stuff and this is all that AFAICT

Social media is 90% outrage farming by nation states and individuals with agendas. I think the experiment failed. Humans in large groups are so trivially manipulated by algorithms. Our ape brains at large just can't deal with a firehos
