I've never been successful in getting sccache to really speed up projects, but then again only release builds have _really_ been impossible for me, and that's only when I was working on Deno which was absolutely massive.

We had issues with long compile times at deno. Release builds were brutal, debug builds were OK as long as they were incremental. It was likely one of the largest open-source rust applications, but we were still quite productive. Most likel

I've been writing Rust code for a while and generally if it compiles, it works. There are occasional deadlocks and higher-level ordering issues from time-to-time, but modulo bugs, the compiler succeeding generally means it'll run

I've been slowly accumulating Unifi gear and I'm happy with it, though my experience is mixed - the prices are relatively good for a unified ecosystem, IMO. OTOH I've had two pieces of equipment die: an outdoor camera that sh

The joke for those who missed it: "How do you know somebody loves Unifi?" "Don't worry they'll tell you" Disclaimer: I do like unifi.

It really should just be compiled to WASM and used with some sort of DOM bridge.

Even the most basic style of interaction would be amazing: 1. Associate a form element with a non-JS action, ie: add-element, remove-element, modify-element. 2. Allow those actions to make use of <template> elements when adding or mod

Browser vendors really screwed the pooch on XSLT, the same way that MNG got sidelined in the past. They integrated an early version of a tech and then completely failed to modernize it. There's potentially a real need for something lik

Does the SVG renderer support custom IDs and/or attributes on nodes? If so I'll add support for this to Stylus ( https://github.com/mmastrac/stylus )

This would be sad, but I think it's sadder that we didn't spend more effort integrating more modern XSLT. It was painful to use _but_ if it had a few revisions in the browser I think it would have been a massive contender to thing

I think the coolest part of the futex is that it's a handle-less concept. There's no allocation or deallocation via syscall, just a kernel-based memory watcher that turns out to be incredibly useful as a primitive. Everything goes

That's a terrible analogy, and it's impossible to list all the reasons why. Money doesn't work like ballots. All ballots are the same value, and each voter is entitled to one only. If the pennies in my account are miscounted,

I can't help but wonder if this utter complexity of voting led to many of America's current problems. It's a unique approach with unique problems.

I worked one election as a scrutineer and came away with the same thought. It's an amazing ballet of process that is challenging to hack, and it makes me irrationally upset whenever I see politicians here trying to import vote irregula

"insane" is a little rude, that's not a great reply to my comment by any stretch. Voting machines are far easier to hack than human processes, and there have been numerous presentations on this particular topic. American poli

We do hand counts here in Canada and it's pretty accurate. We do have scrutineers as part of the process and ballot security is pretty paramount. Recounts are mostly automatic and done when margins are too close. I think America leaned

Thanks! I legitimately missed this not having done intensive CSS work for a few years. Odd that it doesn't appear much in blog posts. I suppose the patterns are still being worked out?

How can you tell that any Windows or Mac clone UI is a re-implementation? Easy: try to move your mouse diagonally into the Send To menu after letting it pop up. If the send-to menu closes as you mouse over the item into the submenu, it'

If you were living in a country with a strong rule of law that wasn't currently in a constitutional crisis, I'd agree. Yeah, this is likely an accident or mistake, but it's also one of the first steps that someone would take
