The Rust project seems to be understandably afraid to officially document the memory layout and get locked into supporting an ABI that might need to change at some point. The preference seems to be supporting extraction of data via library

Yep, totally, although there are still some holes in that. pipe2 being missing on Darwin is one example. You also need to hope that all the libraries you're integrating with are using O_CLOEXEC as well.

FDs really should have been opt-in for inheritability from the start, with the possible exception of stdio. Inheritability being an fcntl is definitely one of the worst bits -- if the APIs for fork()/etc were designed today it would pr

My favourite part of these videos of people rescuing obscure tech is when they talk about the community of other people also rescuing the same obscure tech and team up with them. The internet might be a bit of a cesspool now but these littl

I read the technical description of this and the whole work seems like magic. Antenna design, extremely low-power passive networks, etc. On top of that, it can tap into network signal bursts as a communication medium. It feels like a projec

Branded lifetimes are painful in practice as they infect _everything_ and often make it impossible to interop with other things. I don't think you'd find a GC library to be useful to most developers if it required that. For those

That wasn't the library I had an issue with but the general problem is this: Downstream consumers of a library that have integrated Dependabot get alerts for CVEs filed against a library, even if the are "awaiting analysis".

You missed the point. The code purported to be vulnerable is not slow because of the length of the string. The "example exploit" is slow because the reports use slow methods to construct the string under test. When timing the affe
