I agree they could have worked more closely with the team, but the chat logging is actually pretty concerning. It's not sinophobia when they're logging _everything_ you say. (in fairness pervasive logging by American companies sho

Thanks for that feedback, will totally do that. I should probably update the sample screenshots to be a little more visually appealing, as well.

This is awesome. I built a lightweight home status server called Stylus that would probably pair very well with this: https://github.com/mmastrac/stylus It works by automatically changing CSS classes, and it looks like

This is a much better experience than the previous Qualcomm debug experience, which was a hand-rolled set of read/write/execute primitives exposed over USB. It was hilariously undersecured, allowing a few of us to continually get

I'll have to give this a shot for some of the Rust server work I'm doing. progscrape.com uses a lot of tricks to boot quickly specifically because of the edit-compile-run cycle being slow (mostly deferred loading of indexes, etc).

I'd be happy if we could get terminals to agree on how wide the warning triangle emoji renders. The emoji are certainly useful for scripts, but often widths are such a crapshoot. I cannot add width detection to every bash script I writ

I honestly thought Tesla would beat everyone to the punch here but it seems like they just stalled out what - five or so years ago? Waymo seems to be the furthest ahead in my complete outsider opinion. I feel like everyone else is a way dis

Western society still has the puritan ethic baked into it. If life isn't pain and suffering and struggle, it's worthless.

I haven't had Facebook or Instagram apps installed on anything but a burner phone for half a decade and I'm happy about that decision. Unfortunately I can't get rid of WhatsApp, but I hope it was immune to this.

I would guess the author is young and smart, but hasn't spent much time working with others. I've seen this in other developers with lots of potential. It usually takes a few years of mentorship to smooth the rough edges.

Rust allows for manual struct layout with #[repr(C)] (with some limits, but rav1d uses it heavily - https://github.com/search?q=repo%3Amemorysafety%2Frav1d%20%2... ), so some of this could likely be ported over to rav1d as w

This makes a lot of sense. Obscure Windows bugs make for unhappy developers. Unless you have a local windows setup, the platform is challenging to debug. I spent too much time while working at Deno on this sort of thing.

What seems to be lost in these discussions is how the American system rides on global respect for American IP, and that this respect for IP is part of the whole global trade system. With global trade falling apart, this respect for IP is in

There is not much, unless you're working with AV1. rav1d is the alternative there but you've got to trade off some performance for security gains. ffmpeg is a monopoly in the space which means that you either take the exact set of

Reading the ffmpeg twitter account is enough to turn me off using ffmpeg. It's a shame there's no real alternative -- the devs seem very toxic. I mean sure, max performance is great if you control every part of your pipeline, but

It's funny that iText is still around. I used this 20 years ago in a hybrid .NET/Java web app that needed a PDF renderer and it was pretty much the top choice. The rendering still looks the same!
