My guess is that tiny LSTM is less computationally expensive than a tiny transformer. Since paper proposes replacing every weight with this tiny shared net, you want to be as tiny & performant as possible.

I loved how he nuked the image by entering wrong code. Having a live system is awesome, but in instances like this, we should start thinking about Kay’s notion of “computers all the way down”, i.e. virtualization. So no matter how much co

Exactly, we need computer-equipped neural nets. Models need to use traditional UIs (including programming languages) and then we can talk about how to stop them. :)

Well, you can subclass it, but you would have to convert regular array to your subtype every type you would want to use some extra property. With proposed way, you can still enjoy the terseness of the language.

If the prototype extensions were scoped to modules, that would be really nice. ```js // moduleA.js Object.defineProperty(Array, "flatten", ...) export Array // moduleB.js import { Array } from "moduleA&quo

Apple shipped support for WebXR in iOS 16. OpenXR is pretty good standarď and they would greatly benefit from supporting it. Which I think will happen. (My guess is that Unity (& Blender) will have an on-stage demo when the headset come

The reason why they decided to remove ultrasonics is that combining contradictory signals from cameras and ultrasonic is not straightforward. What should have the higher precedence? So they ultimately decided that cameras can do what ultras

Ok, I read 20+ articles describing the VR demo you worked on. Some of them explicitly state that they can’t disclose how the interaction works. One of them mentioned that extra saccade is used to “click”, but it isn’t very revealing. Some d

Really cool solution with the hot mirror! I always wondered if we will end up with cameras behind microdisplays. Some phones are already doing this, but doing that for VR is probably years away. The point you made about rethinking all UI in

The trick with overlaying colorful rectangle on top of handwritten glyphs is the same thing I did for New Kind of Paper [0]. Apple PencilKit has this weird behavior that when you change color of some stroke, the canvas freezes for some time

Really nice article. I think the undo/redo for rich text is a tad bit more complicated than undo/redo for objects with properties. For starters, in your demo when user A has selected some word and user B writes a letter in it, use
