Since one of the EU's goals is to make it easier to do business, I would expect the EU to fund translations to all its official languages (with English among them). As far as I know no country has requested it.

I'd say getting sex by dating is more expensive than paying for it directly in most if not all developed countries. This topic needs a study of its own though.

A life where I have paid off my mortgage and my runway is good enough that I can leave a job and take some time off. Maybe a middle ground where I can work for 4 days a week at some boring job and still save a bit of money.

That logic is complex, but not that much. The industry is full of RBAC implementations that are orders of magnitude worse, and don't necessarily do what their owners think they do.

A better made up law is that, given a complex enough product, simplicity is inversely proportional to the underlying complexity. An Airbus A380 is a long shaft with windows and wings, etc. This only applies to non brutalist design though.

Not sure, but a good hint is that Twitter make most of their money from ads and data. They could have thousands of sales people.

Sounds like they want to lay them off with three weeks notice or whatever the law mandates in that area to prevent legal action. Personally I would accept the offer and do the bare minimum while I look for a new job.

Twitter is a cesspool of toxicity. A few years ago I was mocked by a 50k+ star project PM for contributing to their project without knowing some obscure details. Fortunately they didn't link my PR which was merged soon after anyway.

It is largely a cultural thing. At my current place I can discuss endemic industry issues with relative freedom without fearing for my job. At some places mentioning tech debt is enough to bother some higher up with a chip on their shoulder

I still believe Kubernetes is one of the best tools out there to build scalable systems. But I wish it was more opinionated and less leaky. Every project I build feels like a Frankenetes made of many subsystems provided by different vendors

I learned C++ to teach myself graphics programming. I'd expect the graphics students of the future to use Rust + Vulkan or something like WebGPU.

I'd say the trend in the industry is to hire engineers rather than language specialists. An experienced C++ guy should be able to learn the Rust basics in a few months.
