Thanks for the smh link. Parliamentary committees propose all kinds of things, they don't become law. The title here is wrong, it isn't the govt proposing it as a law. Not that they mightn't try, but it's silly to confla

With rolling codes, if you (or a toddler) press your remote button too many time while out of range of the car, will the remote and car get out of sync? More than 60 or 255 presses or something like that? I guess there must be a mechanism f

Isn't the main reason for knfsd being in-kernel that it depends on inode number to file lookups? Does samba have the same problem? The kernel nfs server is IME more robust than userspace options like ganesha, but that seems to mostly b

Australian bank cards like Westpac work fine in Google Pay, its not like they're locked into bank apps. The bigger problem with Google pay is that it's too slow to open now after the rewrite. It's a time critical app, you

Are the hyperscalers (proclaimed target market?) likely to be willing to give up control of the compiler stack to a third party like that? Generally the trend seems to be keeping software expertise in-house.

Out of curiousity I tried linkerd2-proxy here on a i5-1145G7 (I guess similar total CPU? Less cores, laptop model, newer). Took 5 minutes but used ~6GB resident. Maybe yours was swapping a lot?

I don't think TCP_DEFER_ACCEPT does that - "Allow a listener to be awakened only when data arrives on" it just changes the timing of accept()? What you describe sounds more like TCP_CORK, but I don't think that'll w

Is the internal error correction done on the eMMC module? Perhaps they don't trust that, or are being wary of bit errors on the data lines. It seems like a fair bit of effort for a device like this - I wonder if the same u-boot codebas

You could possibly use ZFS with sha256 checksums for that purpose? You would have to somehow sign the merkle root each time you write it, not sure how easy that would be. Perhaps write it to another partition and hope it's atomic enoug
