You will soon, if you want it: competent Windows machines for basic tasks will soon be the price of a mid-range piece of software. There will be plenty of reasons to prefer other platforms, but there won't be any need to choose per se.

People like apps because installing and opening an app doesn't make them feel stupid. Remember the ReadWriteWeb Facebook-login debacle? Even the users who didn't make the same mistakes as those folks still feel frustrated with all the steps

Takeaway: if it's email, it's on a server somewhere; if it's on a server somewhere, it's best to assume it'll be public record someday. If it's an outburst, maybe you should do it by phone.

"Before prototype, mootools, and jQuery etc., JavaScript frankly sucked." Proto, mootools and jQuery are written in JavaScript. So your statement compiles to "JavaScript sucked until people figured out what it could do." (Which is essential

I wonder, how difficult would it be to detect whether a user of some sort of brain interface simply is or is not irritated by the particular on-screen thing s/he is looking at?

I guess I shouldn't be as shocked as I am that a major NPR anchor and interviewer, Linda Wertheimer, seems to consider it a huge novelty for a record release to be digital-only.

If disagreeable opinions are just as likely to cause the negative effects of trolling as "real" troll comments, don't you need the same countermeasures in place?

Besides putting weight behind HTML5 as a means of making native (not native-quality, but native ) Android apps, Google should be working with Adobe (and RunRev and Unity3D and whoever) too. Frankly, Flash isn't the closed platform that sho

Where are the open-systems advocates who want to make something even better than the iPad instead of complain about it?

Schell's followup talk at GDC allegedly gives some important context. Unfortunately it's not online from what I can tell. Gamasutra talks about it in passing here: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/27754/Opinion_Fear_and_Lo...

The average business today would fall apart if people suddenly got that time back that they spend dealing with IT. They'd fill the time with political machinations and end up eating each other alive. More seriously, I predict that we'll see

Maybe the label was alright with embedding if they could do a sponsorship deal to sub in for the otherwise lost revenue. (Recall that YouTube only pays the label for video views in a YouTube-hosted page.)
