Useful? Yes. Way overkill? Also yes (imho). HG is simpler to understand, has a more consistent CLI, and way better error messaging. Just a pity that it's been so sorely overshadowed by the Swiss Army Chainsaw of VCS. Git can certainly

I view it as a sort of hero-worship/cargo-cult thing... "Linus uses it (wrote it) so it must be the best!"

A bit misleading: He didn't actually build the lasers, but ripped them out of other 2nd-hand equipment. Damn, I was hoping for actual plans for building an actual laser, not just cobbling 4 of them together with a power supply and some

Indeed, this is backed by Real Data! Back in the 1970s or thereabouts, IBM did a study where they put one group in an open office and another in individual offices and quantified the productivity difference. The "individual office"

I have to agree with the first comment: Speaking as someone who was a tech trainer and writer of course materials, tutorial, etc. for a couple of decades, if ``carge-edit`` is not core to what you're trying to teach, leave it out . Ge

Deeply familiar with it :) and the Humanure Book goes on at length about how to compost the shit and make very sure it is safe to use. The solids that come out of a methane digester must be composted to render them safe.

Excellent manure, feedstock for compost. Still too toxic for dumping into rivers.

If I interpret OP correctly: It's not the spambots that are the problem. It's Facebook that's the problem.

LOL - I'm not sure about many humans' ability to tell good code from bad, given how prolifically they produce "bad" code.

It might also become worse. It seems to me that GitHub has opened themselves (well, this Copilot thing anyway) up to a form of DoS attack: Just imagine what might happen if a bunch of people opened up a number of public repos filled with ut

Precisely. IMHO any civilisation capable of interstellar travel (at any speed) has solved all necessary questions/problems of resource/energy acquisition and control and has no need to plunder the resources of others.

There is certainly some truth to what you say. Threading is... just not (afaik it's a sort of green-threads thing) and UI is, as you point out, a crapshoot. However... ;) If I'm going to write code for my own amusement, I want to

"Computers that you can talk to and ask questions" Pity the answers are so often rubbish and the "side-effects" so obnoxious. ST (and most other SF) seems not to have predicted that.

No, you probably can't. To make biogas on any reasonable scale is at least a village-scale thing; a single family/household cannot easily produce sufficient raw-material to manufacture useful amounts of methane unless you commit t

No. Opt-out is exactly the wrong approach. Instead consider a flag indicating that "I'm OK with mu source being used for training AI models." i.e. opt-in.

Can't beat the classy reply: If you’re game to resume, we will get everything fixed for you and we’ll try to make it up to you. And if you’re already set on building your own thing, good luck and we’ll be rooting for you. In any case,
