I guess it’s rather pointless to argue about where to put the bar for "luxury". For some, it might be Audi or BMW, for other it might be Ducati or Bentley, it’s not exactly a scientifically defined term.

They have indeed. If you reside in Denmark, you are required to have Danish license plates (and thus to pay the aforementioned tax). Even if you have your official residence in Sweden, but you stay the night in Denmark a little too often, t

I only gave it a passing mention, but the software that drives the car itself (not just the central console) had some serious security vulnerabilities last year: https://www.zdnet.com/article/over-a-dozen-vulnerabilitie

Very true. My daily commute is 90% autobahn, and not the exciting unlimited speed autobahn, but just regular four lane highways with several speed traps on the way. So get on the road, engage cruise control and keep your lane, not much else

And that’s after they reduced it recently. Before that, it was 180% on the whole value of the car, plus 25% VAT on top.

Yeah, I have a nice holder. But beyond annoying to have to play audio from the phone’s speakers rather than the car’s sound system. Also, CarPlay is feasible (and legal) to use while driving. Fiddling around with the comparatively tiny iPho

If only it was that easy. You have to pay the special car tax (and VAT on top of it) to get Danish license plates. And you’re not allowed to have a car on foreign plates if you live in Denmark. However, I moved away from Denmark before I bo

Replacing it is about 8 months away, so I haven’t done much research yet. There’s no shortage of options, though.

No, it’s a special 180% car tax, plus 25% VAT on top - 1.8*1.25 = 2.25. Yes, you have to pay VAT on the tax, too. It’s bananas. They did reduce it slightly a few years ago, I think it’s more like 180% in total now.

In 2016, when I got it, there was pretty much no used/demo cars on the market with CarPlay, and I wasn’t willing to pay for a brand new one. Also, I hadn’t actually tried CarPlay then, and CarPlay has improved a lot since. Dunno about

That would be good by me. The car people go back to doing what they’re good at, and let the software people do their thing.

Yeah, I’m definitely not a typical luxury car owner. I got a mid-range car from a high end brand, and I got it at a 40% discount because it was a demo model.

The "get a car from the job" used to be a common trick in Denmark years ago, but they changed the rules to you get taxed heavily for it, so it there’s not much to gain that way.

If you live outside the big cities, a BMW is a pretty rare sight in Denmark, even if its just a 3-series.

If everyone is driving Toyota Aygo or Citroën C1s, a BMW 3 is pretty damn fancy.

I think BMW has something going for it with fit and finish, but I’d agree you’d get more bang for the buck with an Asian car.

Depends a lot on where you come from. BMW is very fancy in Denmark. In Switzerland, it’s one of the most common cars.

Yeah, it’s a shame that Tesla does’t have CarPlay. However nice Tesla’s interface is, most of what I want is access to stuff that I already have on my phone.

Yeah, I’m not hoping for perfection. My iPhone is not perfect either, but Apple’s software is still in a very different league, quality wise, than BMW’s.

In Denmark, I would have, but I bought it after I moved to Switzerland, so I only paid a modest 8% VAT on the car. Also, it was a demo-car, the price was around $42'000.

To each their own, of course, but I think a car with CarPlay will age much better. The way CarPlay works is that your phone controls most of it, so you’ll be able to take advantage of the yearly iOS updates without getting a new car. Basica

I was likely going to replace it at the end of the lease in any case, but I might have replaced it with another BMW if their software wasn’t so awful.

Until Perl6 is actually released, it doesn’t really matter what they call it. (yes, I know they have functional snapshot builds, but as long as there’s not a final "6.0" (or "1.0") release, expect most devs to steer clea

It'll be a few more years before you can realistically start talking about failure. No one reasonably expected the old car companies to leapfrog Tesla in a year or two. This is going to be a long battle for market share. It'll tak

It's not like they can buy any old engine and slap it under the wing. The two engine choices are deeply integrated in the final package. Boeing has been collaborating with R-R and GE for years on software and hardware integration. The

If a Tesla has a fatal accident because of some 3rd party component, the headlines will blame Tesla, too. Boeing is not free of responsibility here, they chose to sell said engines as an option on their planes. They have worked together wit
