My launch day Apple Watch was unbelievably bad. Not even good for telling time as the raise-to-wake feature was so flaky. So by the sound of it, the Vision Pro might be starting in a better position than the watch.

Social media has effectively split in two directions, and the ends of the spectrum are Discord and TikTok. TikTok is almost purely algorithmic, stranger-generated content consumption with the novelty factor cranked to 11. Discord has no alg

Yeah I set up a pihole a while back and abandoned it because I couldn't get it to block YouTube ads.

70% of people being overweight is by no means good, but that is not even remotely close to 100 pounds of extra body fat. 100+ would usually put you in class II or III obesity. That number is more like 10%.

There are a few exceptions but yeah, it's bad. I remember visiting Houston and asking the hotel receptionist which way to walk to get to some restaurants a half mile away, and it was clear that no one had ever asked that before. And su

This has not been my experience. I'm lucky to live in a very walkable part of a very walkable city, and almost every time someone comes to visit I find they've disappeared within 24 hours to "explore the area". These are

I've been wondering what the "hanging copper plate" demonstration would look like if you were just seeing eddy currents. I kind of assumed you wouldn't see much movement because otherwise that makes the whole demonstrati

I actually think the killer feature for this thing is already there: a hands-free, mostly passive consumption device that can seamlessly switch from full attention entertainment (or work) to partial attention consumption. I think it will wo

Buying a cheap little glucose meter is really valuable IMO. You can get them for close to nothing, and you can use them to check your fasting glucose, or your glucose response after meals. Also, resting heart rate is very easy to measure, e

I mean it's not impossible, but Apple would have to design and manufacture one. If they're planning on it it's weird that they wouldn't mention it. VR controllers aren't simple the way a game pad is. They need a ful

I saw a traditional gaming controller and a keyboard. Was there some kind of tracked-in-3d-space pointing device that I missed?

> I guess it was just too obvious to demo. Or is it? Gaming can't be good, because there's no controllers. Even if the hand and eye tracking is absolutely S-tier, you're never getting something like button input from swi

It's a bit odd if you think about it: a desktop OS effectively creates a virtual 3d space for windows to live (move them in X and Y, or change their depth relative to each other), and the iPad or iPhone treats the surface as just a sim

What is your setup? Is this for a virtual desktop or are you gaming? The only reason I keep a Windows partition around is to boot into VR, and I would love to nuke it forever. But I just haven't been able to get happy with VR on Linux

You're missing something. Yes it's for turbo nerds, but it's also for ultra casuals. I have shown Beat Saber to probably around 30 people at this point. The game is set up in the living room with the TV mirroring the headse

I find it pretty hilarious that VR started off as a product for gamers, designed by gamers, and funded by gamers. And even before it made it to market, it was bought up by Facebook who said "no no no, forget games, we're going to

There's a bit of irony there though, in that the most compelling things in VR are from gamers creating awesome things (VR Chat, modding in Beat Saber, etc), and emphatically not from giant companies providing these "experiences&

My experience is very similar, even still (boot from linux into windows, have updates shoved down my throat, some random thing doesn't work because reasons, etc.) Most of it really feels like unforced errors though. As much as I am not

I'm wondering that too, but from the presentation it looked a lot more "iPhone" than "mac". The only thing they demo'd that looked like a real desktop was an actual mac being mirrored in the display. Everything

I mean 2d as in "designed for a 2 dimensional monitor". Everything they demo'd was a 3d game, projected onto a 2d surface, projected into a 3d virtual space.

Incredibly impressive hardware, but Apple's distaste for games is almost comical. $3500 headset that plays shitty 2d arcade games with a controller.
