You're probably right, but I'm not sure we've hit the peak yet. What I can't understand if why people can't accept that some periods actually are worse, and it's not a matter of preference. The fact that the mu

As someone that never goes in debt and would never use Affirm, I still realize these types of services will impact me. Just like with high cashback credit cards, they have large merchant comissions, that in the end have to be covered from t

I've only skimmed the article, but this is one of the time I'm reminded of Pascal's words: "Please excuse this long letter, I did not have time to write a shorter one". It feels like a few more edits could have real

While in general I find that speedreading is mostly for poor content, since our speed of information comprehension is slower than any reading, this seems to be the most effective implementation I've come across. It might help the websi

Like the original comment, I feel like we're talking past one another. Of course I think we should strive to be what we teach our children. Maybe you didn't like my use of "indoctrination", as you see it having a negativ

These contradictory discussions have always been out in the open, as otherwise the course of action for society would be clear and just need execution. With people speaking past one another, I don't think it's been as dysfunctiona

The article mentions help being available, but what really does it recommend if you do have long-covid? Everyone knows vaccines and masks help, but there seems to be remarkably little being studied about dietary habits/supplements/

I have used x265 fairly easily to encode a 4K Bluray. None of the AV1 options seem to have the required performance (both quality and encoding speed) and ease of use.

Sure, but I meant that hardware support is implemented if vendors are forced to support something -- such as user downloaded files. Netflix will serve both av1, h265 and h264, so my TV doesn't have to implement av1 support.

What I think the AV1 initiative neglects as a way of spreading their tech would be giving away a great open implementation of an encoder. x265 and x264 spread their respective codecs all over the internet through pirated content, which forc

I do not work at Google, but I speculate that this is a case of software architecture leading the product: For fast results and scalability Google will just DNS-redirect you to the closest servers, and those servers are configured to a spec

For every question, it's the positive that should be answered (like Russell asked how do we know there isn't a teapot floating in space somewhere between Jupier and Mars). Why should we monetize any side project? Why should we not

That was my initial point actually: a lot of these tradeoffs happen accidentally since for instance you have to write a custom component to do something basic as changing the background color of a select options. If more powerful browser co

I'd actually put the blame here on browsers, and how limited the default inputs are. There are too many needlessly reimplemented components, but anyone that has ever needed to style a <select> to make it look in line with any mod

I wouldn't have any issue with giving the president a salary of 10 million/year. We as a society really need to do a better job to put our most qualified individuals in running society instead of having them optimize ad revenue.
