I like hooks, but I've found them to be the biggest foot guns in my 20 year career. Forget a dependency in the dependencies array, forget an useMemo or a useCallback and your application will rerender like crazy. Yes, it looks nice fro

I followed a similar path. Nowadays I just use the Notes app from my mac. I keep a primary note named "daily" where I write at the top the date and everything interesting for the day. If there is anything important enough I want

Well, this is true, but to me this provides a set of good defaults instead of starting from scratch. I see this very useful for example for side projects, where I don't want to start from scratch on every experiment I do. For a work pr

Agree. Also forbidding access to work, restaurants, theaters, child day care etc to non-vaccinated should be a preference of their owners or the government If somebody thinks vaccines just protect themselves, now that's a real idiot,

In my company the only ones that want to go back to the office are those engineers and managers that spend most of their day just walking around, talking to everyone about non important stuff, inviting you to have a coffee, and making jokes

I agree, mixed remote and non remote is very difficult to get right. I think we should all just switch jobs to remote companies if we like that and our company is not, and vice versa.

Everything starts simple. > If your app isn't complicated, I'd just useState Your very trivial example of a button with a counter, gets very complicated as soon as you need the counter value available outside of its children...

I'm just getting started with XState and so far I'm loving it. Something that it is not that clear to me yet and I'd love an article about is how would you integrate it with form validation libraries, like react-hook-form, ve

As a frontend developer, I love to run applications in production, being able to get a terminal to my server, setup metrics, and do all these devopsy things. But it is a totally different experience from doing this with Appengine, Heroku, T

I love JavaScript and it is what I do full time, but I think still *nothing* beats Rails or Django for this. The problem with Blitz, and similar frameworks is that they are not stable enough, in the sense that being attached to the node eco

Static typing has nothing to do with testing, or bugs. Static typing is about tooling, autocompletion and being able to follow the code. Using static typing as a way to reduce the number of tests is just terrible advice in my opinion. Also,

The level of madness and overengineering in the kubernetes world is only comparable to the level of madness going on in the React world. Everyone seems to be thinking they're Google or Facebook, or both.
