$3.5 is pretty expensive when you can get microcontroller chips for $0.5 or less in bulk. In general, "the industry" makes their own boards and modules, and prefers cutting off any excess cost and features in favor of getting chea

Aside from the backup/restore functionality mentioned by the parent post, there's no way for them to do automatic updates or get similar system privileges like play store does, restricting a lot of functionality that play store ca

The point the article makes is that f-droid doesn't restrict you to one curated source. You can add as many as you trust or otherwise need.

That sure is a bunch of fearmongery. With how mobile everyone is these days an account can be logged into by hundreds of IPs, including residential IPs like friends and family. It's not a very significant data point for law enforcement

Devuan is a distro preconfigured to install without systemd and with enhancements to several packages to require less of systemd. Debian can still be configured to use sysvinit, it's just a bit of a mess.

This number diminishes every passing year, with only debian being a bastion of sanity on the "user friendly" side of the distro spectrum.

When said "extension of the mind" is wiped, there's nothing left to lose but monetary value. I agree this was an anti-theft tactic, but in my opinion it does more harm than good given the amount of people that will forget the

Extremely few people are even aware this is a thing, let alone know how to reset a phone in a way that won't essentially brick the device. I'm not too familiar with how google does it, but considering the average android device is

I wonder if those programs wouldn't be easy enough to convert into ELF. From cursory reading, it doesn't look like the format contains anything that wouldn't be able to be represented in an ELF file. Am I missing something?

I guess I worded it incorrectly. My point was that it's two completely different ways of selling you things. Supermarkets use all these techniques to subconsciously make you buy more things, but they rarely try to sell you a singular p

I'll be honest, aside from the FnLock LED issue, most of the issues I've mentioned were probably fixed by 2020. I got this laptop in january 2019, and none of the stable distros (ubuntus and such) would even boot without kernel pa
