When they say compatibility they largely mean C API compatibility. PyPy doesn't even try for this, and yet it's key for any real world adoption. Building on top of PyPy wouldn't have helped with C API compatibility. I really

Not really the same - Unladen Swallow gave up because llvm JIT was immature. Pyston gave up because Dropbox is moving to Go. That's a bad sign.

You are right, the difficulties are in Python's design. See the Pyston blog "Why is Python slow". http://blog.kevmod.com/2016/07/why-is-python-slow/ That said, the Pyston guys knew what the pr

It is really bad news for Python that Dropbox is mostly done with them. (Announcement says most new code is in Go, so further Pyston development couldn't be justified). PyPy is not feasible for most workloads. Pyston was making incre

Smart workers. America's economy benefits from bringing some of the best brains in the world here. If America screws that up, other countries will be happy to accept smart workers and students.

While many Trump stories should be flagged, some are important for society and for HN to discuss. This is one of those important stories. Americans can not stick their heads in the sand about these anti-muslim actions. Please do not delete

The reason people are upset is because banning Muslims from many countries, when a chief political advisor and propagandist [1] Bannon has called for a white-only US, is what authoritarians do. Hannah Arendt in her work on 1930s Germany des

Article is flagged? Trump is trying to manipulate the media to suppress discussion of bad things he does. His trolls have succeeded in suppressing this discussion on HN. A win for Trump and bad for the rest of us.

The real danger is that Trump's Muslim hating is not a statement of fact but a declaration of intent. Arendt wrote about this on 1930s Germany. https://storify.com/AndrewHickey/lusztig-arendt-and-trump
