I can't really make my mind up on react, although it is definitely Java/IBM now - react devs are on average less smart than [newer framework] a la Graham on python. Despite that, I actually quite like writing react in some sense -

Microsoft haven't really taken any deep interest into the (say) Office suite in decades so now they have no intuition at all for where its value is, thus the "umm copilot?"-ing everywhere.

The issue here, although easier due to moving second, is that Apple don't seem to really have a software culture, and this is pure software in multiple limits.

Have you used the tiktok one? It's too good for my liking. It can make weird inferences that no other algo can (this is actually why I deleted tiktok, far too addictively good)

newCTFE was actually hitting 50x on some things I benchmarked — locality again, to a good approximation. And my initial post did mention doing too much work in the first place.

Thx for link. Asymptotics do always win but consider but consider the price of the win i.e. bitpacking is cheap (and fun) — not even just an academic exercise, this is where you get to use your hard won intuition.

I'd go a step further: the compiler should solely be a way to run the library, no extra code.

The issue isn't really refactoring. This is kind of like a blind man clapping to echolocate his way around a maze. It's better than nothing but the issue is that the compiler just isn't amenable to non-batch work (e.g. the se

I view micro services as a risk mainly in a Conway sense rather than technology. Most companies can run on a VPS.

I'd argue it's something a little more fundamental than mere CV padding Taking the CV aspect literally — this is a sleight of hand because it's a metaphor — I know lots of people who do this stuff that don't have a CV at

I would probably rather nothing logged, but I must say that when working on a language inside a company (rather than open source) and being able to do telemetry is a massive win.

Quite funny although as a user of gitlab tinged with a slight pain in that I think gitlab is just pure wasted opportunity (i.e. my experiences of using it versus certain other tools give me certain opinions of gitlab co.)

That's a good thing, we should embrace it more — we should be more driven by gut feelings than "objective" bullshit, that's how you end up with nonsense like megabytes of JS going down the wire in the first place.

Better programming languages = better software = value / "money". It is hard to see but software has real tangible value.

Research by and on whom? I don't doubt in the slightest that fancy mobile-y design styles look nice and are often intuitive at T=0, but we've lost a lot of throughput and information density by going for them as an industry. It&

A lot of static analysis tools explicitly support forcing you to check the value of "tainted" values such as return values of getc and so on i.e. even with slices you want to be able to catch this kind of thing ahead of time.
