Unfortunately basic experience with git at universities is not something you can expect. Especially professors cause a lot of damage frequently due to not taking/having the time to learn it properly.

Has this become any better? Every time I asked ChatGPT for sources it makes up papers, with fragments of real paper titles and topically related authors. The supposed paper itself though can't be found anywhere.

Another step in the war on general-purpose computing [1]. As people who work in tech we have a shared responsibility to keep technology free and accessible for all who want it. [1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUEvRyemKSg

Just got my Framework 16 and I highly recommend it. Sure, it is not as sleek but overall very well engineered. I was inconvenienced by having my charge port on the left side, so i just swapped the port to the right. Lovely device :)

This is a design choice. Building a device optimized for repairability is possible and has been realized by Framework [1]. Of course it doesn't have to be all-out modularity, but an intermediate solution is easily possible. Vote with y

The space race likely necessitated NASA to show some improvement frequently. Otherwise the Soviet Union would have filled the large gaps between infrequent launches with their incremental successes.

If you can build a Dyson sphere it should be trivial to maintain a few extra planets worth of natural environment, or even life seed some new worlds.

> It’s using a new specialized Gemini model to summarize the web and show you an answer. It’s even using Gemini to design and populate the results page. This sounds like a typical overfitting for simple, generic searches, at the expense

I don't want to say no, however it seems very hard to do. You get feedback about motor position via an encoder, which is usually located on the motors axis and not the output element. Since the motor axis spins a lot more, you get more

They do, but cheap is ~10.000€ currently for a general-purpose bot with 1.2m reach. You get a high quality machine and software for that. Note that a robot without really good kinematics software is borderline unusable. Also, besides the ar

Servo + Cycloidal or Harmonic gears are usually the way to go, but to get them backlash-free is hard (or expensive, if you're buying). Once you got that down challenges include: * How rigid are the links between my joints? Plastic will

One thing that is amazing about industrial robots is how rigid they are when at standstill. Breaking systems start to be a challenge too at high speeds and loads. And once you manage to get the hardware working, getting a kinematic solver t

We need "leadership" people in companies to aign off on decisions like how engineers need to sign off on designs. That signature needs to make them accountable for future issues.

I guess it's on everybodys mind due to the war in Ukraine: They sunk 1/3rd of the Russian Black Sea fleet with drones, without having a real navy of their own anymore. Is there a good overview of civilian applications so far? Also

This is correct. That's also why there is an ongoing trend to push users into walled gardens and onto hardware they do not control. Or as Cory Doctorow calls it the "war on general-purpose computing"
