The point of reading for entertainment is to: 1. Have fun. If you don't like the book you're reading, put it down. Life is too short for bad books. 2. Leave a general impression on you. For example, some books just change your out

Canary. A cannery is a place that cans stuff. Pedanticism aside, you make a very good point. I feel like Western society has been progressively getting more and more individualistic, with movements like Libertarianism on the rise. People wh

Yeah... The headline and the rest of the article are out of sync. It's not "Unselfish People Are More Likely to Wind Up with Depression", it's "People who Wind Up with Depression Are More Likely to be Unselfish"

He joined out of school then climbed to CEO. That's damned impressive. It would take commitment, grit, skill, and so much more to do that. It's not like he was a mindless pencil pusher in the same dead-end job his whole life.

It's also well known that when one part of the brain dies, other parts will step up to assume its responsibilities. So it's not inconceivable that there is some flexibility there.

I am not my neurons, my neurons are not me, but my identity is driven by those neurons. Exactly... a non-mystery. But a great example of "the whole being greater than the sum of its parts".

Same thing at my company. We've been trying to fill out our team roster for the better part of a year and ended up hiring from overseas to find the talent and relocate them to the region. To be fair, we didn't have zero local in

That's just an argument for not cutting funding of government regulators. It's also a solid point against the little-to-no regulation folks who think the free market will solve every problem.

I disagree, the onus falls on the state to actually make the licensing process strict. How can Google be expected to do this at scale? To act as an extra layer of regulation that even local government cannot or will not provide?

How can you get to the related reddit discussion from a picture in your grid? If I'm like 50+ images deep and I want to see what people said about it... odds are browsing the actual subreddit is going to take ages.

I know people who say they felt guilty about getting wedding gifts and whatnot. They said it felt like they were forcing their friends to buy them things... which I guess is what it is.

That frame of mind implies that marriage is something women want and something men do not want. Why? It sounds like you're making some weird assumptions about sex-positivity, child-rearing, or finances.

I remember once hearing how there were some strange correlations between hair and eye colour and role and personality. I wonder if they will touch on that too? Either way, will be cool to see what they've found.

The greater point is that if you put something really useful next to something really annoying it will exacerbate the issue. F1 should not be so bad, and it should not be so close to F2. Even just leaving alone how bad , and utterly useles

The indoctrination starts young, and it sucks. And the majority of role models in society reinforce it. People in general seem to lack the self awareness to realize what's going on and chalk it up to the natural way of things.
