With tech (from search to ISPs) there are monopolies. Do they break them up or regulate them like utilities or something else? Our politicians are starting to tackle some real issues and we'll have to see how this shakes out.

VC funded companies aren't some tech billionaire funding a cool new project. VC funded companies are investments that they want a return on. It shouldn't be surprising when people try very hard to protect that investment to help t

This is quite a method to drive people away from independent repair shops and to those controlled by the manufacturer. I wonder if they intentionally took inspiration from tech companies who skirt repairability

Don't forget that many known vulnerabilities aren't patched by people running these systems. Just because a vulnerability is known doesn't mean it's patched.

I wouldn't look at the average or even the median. I would look at the 90%. In cities and for many tech workers it's easy to get really fast Internet connections. What about rural locations? For example, 90% of the US is rural. Wh

Scientists have found that people who had SARS are immune to COVID. Their T cells fight it off. There was another variant of a coronavirus that went around and people who got that seem to be immune to. Some scientists testing on older blood

I asked about this. The response I got was that many people who got COVID had a mild case where the immune system did not kick in very strongly. That these are more likely to get a 2nd infection. The vaccine for them will give them coverage

The US is a money and capitalism first culture. This is before things like privacy. I'm not suggesting what is right or should be but rather an observation of what is the case.

I wonder what the logistics to install something like that would be? Say there are 500 spots. How much wiring is needed, what kind of hook up to the grid is needed, how do you run all those cables in existing garage, and how much weight is

It’s wonderful that this works well for your friend. Let’s consider the other end of the spectrum. What about the home of a single mom who needs to get kids off to school, get to work, run errands, and doesn’t have enough time. Also, lives

This brings up an interesting angle to think about. In 20 years what do the old cars on the road look like? Are they all gone? Gone often means in dumps. Where the batteries are toxic to the environment. If we want to think for the environm

For me, that would be fine. But, how is that going to work for people in apartments, jobs that commute a lot (e.g. delivery drivers), people traveling, etc? There are a lot of situations like this. What’s their experience going to be like?

There is an element about convenience here that comes out when we talk about charging (rather than longevity of battery). People are used to ICE cars where you can fill up rather quickly. Fuel pumps put out fuel at different speeds. It'

With the introduction of smart phones and social media we've seen lots of negative effects increase. For example, teen suicide was decreasing until they were introduced and then started to increase again. Girls especially. I wish there
