I haven't heard anything about that. Wikipedia says defunding was proposed in 2019 but rescinded https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWVB WWVB, along with NIST's shortwave time code-and-announcement stations WW

Yep. I tried to go down the wristwatch rabbit hole with a mechanical Seiko but it kept atrocious time. I suppose I could take it to an expert to get regulated but it would still drift. The casio watches with "waveceptor" / &q

Quake didn't have the best gameplay but it had the best technology. Entering a true 3d world on your computer was possible for the first time. Duke 3D had gameplay that was more fun, but it was a 2.5D game with a Doom-style engine (it

I've been doing the "goodreads challenge" since 2018 -- really I just use goodreads to keep track of books I've read, so the site is an adjunct to an activity I'd probably do anyway. I read 20-30 books a year and it

Funny you mentioned the UK - I'm in Canada and our BBC and CBC channels have an even larger responsibility to inform the public than the American big three, but they receive govt funding. I don't think this is the sort of thing th

It's not really intended to be a daily driver once you've built it. There is "beyond linux from scratch" that extends the system but.. normal distros with normal package managers are just infinitely more usable than a LF

If this interests you, there's a new bit of software called SBEMU that is able to emulate old sound blasters on modern intel HDA sound hardware - I was able to run freedos on an old netbook and get audio in dos games.

I own 3 logitech G600 mice now because the button switches wear out. I think I'd be more impressed if logitech put hot-swap sockets in their mice for the switches (asus is doing this on their mice).
