Marketing could still be an issue if they aren't sending the right message that resonates with their target consumers. Personally I haven't seen a surface ad in a while except the commercial another poster commented on above. It w

Was it the device itself that caused such poor sales? I assumed all along it was a marketing/image problem which remains unsolved. Has relentlessness by a company ever overcome this issue in the past?

These negative posts are so cliché. If people who were blogging wrote more in a positive light than whining or bashing on something that is purely their own opinion, I think reading top articles around here would be much more enjoyable. For

I don't know if it's a good or bad thing that WP8 apps break all historical resemblance to other app UIs. Anyone with first-hand experience that can offer some feedback of how these apps hold up from a usability standpoint?

If any new phone wants a decent market share they have to start with the developers - they are the ones who will carry it along until enough 2 year contracts expire to grow the user base. Blackberry simply failed on this front so it's

I find this deliciously delightful after suffering the wrath of these stupid app developers historically on Android. I don't agree with it, certainly, but I feel some warped sense of justice.

It should be your choice but most people aren't knowledgeable enough to manage versions themselves. You would certainly give up any rights for support in doing so as well.

Do they have the experience with this "fragmentation" to pull this off effectively? What will it do from a developer's perspective?

Indeed but it's ungodly easy to add composer, follow FIG standards and be on your merry way to refactoring. At some point if you keep it up it will be easy to transition into a good framework like Symfony. I just refactored an old clas

I dare say, it doesn't appear as if this person has been keeping abreast of the latest PHP trends. FIG standards go a long way and Composer is a godsend (prior to that I wanted to tear my hair out all the time).

Without too much effort you can integrate composer, symfony and twig into wordpress to make it more developer friendly. Hell I have all my wordpress installations maintained through a composer script with phing integration so I can maintain

What happens when the blogs that inevitably grow bigger than a platform need to turn into a community and something more? Surely just a blogging platform will not suffice. How many people actually use Wordpress for just a blog, anyway? This

Blindly picking a design pattern before you develop your application will always be bad. Don't do it. If you do be prepared for tired legs because the chase to find a better one will be never-ending.

I imagine it'd be good for enterprisey companies - would have to be better than "this exchange server requires a pin to unlock your phone" right?

This isn't about how annoying it is to stop for 1.5/hrs a day, it's about quelling the notion that some people don't even think it's possible.

I'd like to see more clever marketing and partnerships like this. It is certainly more interesting than bland marketing and targeted ads.

You are not paying for the content in this model - only the ability to access the content through the provider. It's the same as all free and/or pay-for-web-services. You have no control but that is the sacrifice you make for havi

I think the problem with terse and clear is that, typically, it solves the problem elegantly only in the exact current context in which the code is written. Meaning, as the software progresses, that previous elegant, perfect, concise code i

This is a problem with software in general. Lazy developers or ignorant bosses stagnate the code to the point where it requires a massive rewrite to bring it up to speed. Right now I maintain about 70/30 old code to new code. Most of t
