Word of warning, though. While this article looks pretty decent it's skipping over lots of tiny details that are covered in LYAH, which may lead to annoying gaps in your knowledge/understanding later.

Here in the UK I've noticed that accessing YouTube directly is slow, laggy and choppy. But when I accidentally visited while using a SOCKS proxy running over a VPS in the US it was snappy. After some more testing it seems that my local

You would be correct, I have seriously looked into doing this type of thing and/or modifying the Vim codebase. My conclusion after a few hours is that the Vim codebase is a horrific unsalvageable mess of nested ifdef's. IMHO reimp

Valgrind supports suppression of reports, if valgrind can't track past ioctl, they should add a suppression file to their repo that supresses these warnings, making valgrind output useful again.

FreeBSD is not just a kernel, it also ships with a userland, which includes a C compiler (obviously). In other words, FreeBSD ships with a gcc binary, which means FreeBSD is distributing gcc, which means all clauses in the GPLv3 apply to th

Using the Steam DRM is optional for developers. There are DRM free games on Steam, which means that even if Steam is down, they will still work. That said, I've never had problems with DRMed Steam games not working if the internet is down (

GHC uses a per-version package database, so that should never be possible for different GHC versions. For example, I have the 7.4 from platform installed in /usr/bin/ghc (the normal location for Platform installs on OSX) and 7.7 installed i

I don't know about the grand parent, but personally I store that one in my brain. It's about 32 (maybe more?) characters and quite complex, but it's the only passphrase I need to use regularly so it's etched into my mind.

It depends on what you mean by statically typed language. If you mean other stuff like SML/Ocaml, I agree. If you include C/C++/Java/C# in your definition "statically typed", then I beg to differ. I have considerable experience in C, Java a
