Anything where you don't hit the target is a miss so yes. Non-exhaustively and off the top of my head; running out of battery, electrical fault, losing signal/break in the fibre optic cable, shot down and operator error are all po

It's a really great game FWIW.

Having worked on games in giant teams and small teams my own preference is actually on the smaller end. Ten people feels like a comfortable limit. I'm very much a generalist though and love contributing to all the different bits and pi

Building out of quads is more about overall topology and the aesthetic result.

Ahh, sorry we’re talking past one another then because I hadn’t twigged you were talking about getting better at learning because that’s not what I meant with my initial post! Although I can see why you took that from it. I do like that met

Hence mentioning a PID controller that has autotuning. Drop it in a new environment and it'll adjust. Drop it in another and it'll reconfigure itself.

I'd say there's no such thing as 'the book' for game design and which you will jive with largely depends on your preferences and values around games.

I think for both contexts its far too simplistic to be more than a generalization and certainly for fun its a very local definition to serve Raph's ideas about what constitutes a game rather than encompassing enough to define it fully.

The important thing to note is that Raph’s ideas are in the formalist camp and there other competing theories about game design. The criticism made in the parent of the thread has been a common one since Theory of Fun was first published. W

Progress on predictions means both getting better at prediction (learning) and applying that.

What does a meaningful impact look like if forcing a debate isn’t one?

The language exists already its all licenses. As the reply to the petition notes licenses have been used this way for software long before it became largely digitally distributed.

Right but a policy change isn't the guarentee offered just the debate. Getting to a debate is a win! Despite no concrete policy changes it doesn't mean there won't be other second order effects from having this bought to peop

Clearly they do work because this one achieved quite a lot. It’s not nothing to have a Parliamentary debate on a subject because of a petition!

If things were this simple compensation costs alone would have pushed all labour that could be moved (blue collar or not) outside of the US.

That’s a very rosey interpretation when lots of veteran game devs are struggling to find work or capital for small studios.

Isn’t the memory the pre-trained weights that let it do anything at all? Or do you mean they should be capable of refining them in real-time (learning).

This is a time horizon thing though. Over the course of future human history AI development might look exponential but that doesn’t mean there won’t be significant plateaus. We don’t even fully understand how the human brain works so whilst

For context since success is slippery I’d take it as able to recoup development costs and provide a runway for the next project otherwise being a professional game developer could not be sustainable. This is also the worst place to be in as
