Yes ever since the M1 chip it’s just annoying to work on the M1. Day to day it doesn’t matter much but it wastes days of times the few times i ran into an issue. I wish companies would stop defaulting to macs for development

Sure but it finds compile time errors a whole lot easier. And when modifying code i can say from experience it’s much smoother to modify large statically typed projects than large dynamically typed ones. Actually anyone arguing against that

Naming doesn’t fix unintended consequences. If you are the only person to ever work in the codebase and you never hire anyone new and you have a perfect memory… sure i guess it works than.

The over-hiring was at least somewhat acknowledged tactic big tech companies use to starve future potential competitors. If all the good talent is taken even for only 5 years you can extend the time that you have an advantage without having

Can the market absorb this? If feels like it’s already saturated plus we have the steady stream of new grads. I do not envy anyone who has to look for a job right now

The thing i have come to dislike is that in both companies i work for it lead to strange working relationships between ops/eng. anything that breaks in the deploy pipeline is now “the devops team problem” and they normally act like it’

When i read that they thought docker was outdated I figured i would open the repo to find go code and pre built binaries… when i found c++ i was left thinking the same as you.

“The rich” is just such a vague and strange argument. I really don’t want to see it becoming a thing on HN. Keep the sensationalism to reddit.

I would venture to say you haven’t packaged or shipped any complex software or had to do so in a way that scales to hundreds or thousands of machines. This is along the line of “i could build uber with 50 engineers”.

Depending where someone put a cone on my car i would possibly just run them over or drive off unsafely if i felt that it was an attempt to rob me or steal my car. Having things like that categorized differently makes sense because it’s caus

I just don’t see this getting better. I know my company is currently in the process of getting out of a lease in a nice office on market and no one wants it.

Moved completely off ubuntu after snaps were introduced. Sticking with gentoo now because it’s one of a few distros that doesn’t try to control what software you have to use.

I can live with ads but living in the city the billboards with leds or spotlights on them are hell. Who doesn’t love being forced to buy blackout curtains so you can sleep. City life has undoubtedly taken a tole on my mental and physical he

The mindset around programming and exploration in general is in a sad state. I don’t understand why we have so much hate here for things like this. Better that someone like this find it then someone who noticies it and spins up 1000s of rep
