This shouldn't be a surprise. Tons of development is done on Windows. Most game development, obviously Windows app development, .NET websites, etc. There are command line tools there, but in my 10 years of being a Windows developer,

Which also means when someone is in a bad mood you really feel it. I do vastly prefer the model in Australia of anyone being your server, rather than having a specific waiter. If your waiter goes missing in the US, it seems so silly that i

Yeah I tried to couch it in terms of being my opinion / experience as much as possible. It is a very subjective thing.

It's complicated wrt Australia vs America hospitality customer service - I do tend to find overall that you get better service in the US and way more emphasis on checking whether things are going well and making sure you're having

Not on their front page. It sounds silly, but I would happily use Lyft if they dropped the pretense of being your friend. I love using Uber because if I want to engage I can, if I don't, I can just chill out. They don't dictate

Lyft tells you to do it though: https://www.lyft.com/ "Hop in the front seat and greet your driver with a friendly fistbump" It creates an expectation - and it feels like you're not really getting into the sp

I sorted things out yesterday, but one thing I do have to note - every time I have called customer service (which I've had to do a number of times, because emails are never answered), whenever I am promised a callback, it never happens

So they do! That's interesting. Did you have to be home to take delivery for it? Also it doesn't look like they've added it for Costco which is a shame.

Safeway usually has deals like "buy x of these items for free delivery", so I never paid for delivery using them. They're pretty good, but not same day.

I've never seen them mark anything up. Sale prices are reflected as well. They must be losing money on each order currently.

You also can't get alcohol. They've been pretty smart with what they do and don't allow - makes it much more flexible than Instacart in terms of logistics on their end. It means they can just dump everything on your doorste

That's normal in the US. The difference here is that there is no specific price point you have to get on - I've been moving up and down with how much I pay each month on my contract, which I couldn't do in Australia. The co

The kickstarter updates for this project are a good resource for the thought process behind its design and how it was all implemented, very interesting stuff: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/214379695/micro-py

The kickstarter for the controller boards got a few votes too, but didn't get much traction: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6727326 Glad to see people getting on board now, it's pretty awesome. Fitting Pyth

I'm a tallish guy (6"2) and the seats here in the US in particular seem incredibly small, so even with a small backpack with me I'd far prefer to get it in the overhead bin than have it stashed underneath the seat in front of

I love the linked article and this post so much. I've seen so many coders come into a new project, think 'ugh, why is this so bad?!' and then refactor it their own favorite way. When things break, it's always the same

Huh. There's definitely a strong culture of having longer resumes in Australia - my original resume was 3-4 pages long, which I whittled down to 2 when I moved to the US (and could easily get down to 1 now). I think it's a waste

I still read a resume page by page. Maybe it's different if it's displayed as a web page, but most are still in page form in a PDF. Also, the '1 page' rule of thumb is not a hangover, it's a great rule - one physic
