AS/400's were physical boxes - I worked on them back in the late 80s, as well as system/36(38?). They even had a PL/1 compiler, if you couldn't stomach RPG :-D

They're still made... Unicomp ( https://www.pckeyboard.com/ ) bought the equipment ( from IBM?) and makes 'original' buckling spring keyboards now. They also have some nice 'upgrades' for them lik

I learned to type on manual typewriters, so I like a _heavy_ switch... Box Navy Blue, Box jade, or sages are my current favorite. Cherry Green just wasn't tactile or clicky enough for me.

I'm guessing by the '20 minutes' part they're referring to moding the stabilizers: https://youtu.be/cD5Zj-ZgMLA Not hard to do, and it changes the sound/feel of them in a way a lot of people appreci

The remote jobs have stock and often sign on bonuses, just like on-site jobs. AWS offers a full package (at the same rate ) for both on-site and remote. Other people I've worked for do similar (I've worked 100% from home for 20 y

Actually - thats total compensation. Its usually around $150-175K cash + stock. And 150K remote jobs are definitely available...AWS was just hiring TAMs at that range. AWS does require travel to onboard new clients though - so its more l

I find the same...I have a lifetime of equipment, specifically configured for how I work in my home office. Everything from ergo keyboards to multiple os/servers/monitors. I hate working on any other setup - typical office gear ju

I thought the Mines of Moria was the most atmospheric zone I've seen in an MMO. Really captured the creepy, ancient ruins feeling...Oh! Give monster play a try! Its a rather unique take on PVP where you can actually play as the hero

that's why you need lots of sub-systems...so everyone can find a few they enjoy. The effort to implement a sub-system is a one-time cost, as opposed to the on-going cost of content creation. Also, a lot of players in full MMORPGs (as

Older MMOs still have a ton of stuff to do, outside of grinding - EverQuest 2 and Lord of the Rings online are two I can always find something to do in.. I think a large part of the problem can be solved by adding more 'sub-systems

I find Lord of the Rings Online to have some of the best story driven questing. The story line is interesting, the quests are fairly varied and the 'ohh...' factor when you walk into well known places like Moria is awesome!

Same here - over 50, remote worker - no complaints... I hear about age discrimination on here a lot, but I can't honestly say I know any coder impacted by it. Even my friends in silicon valley are still employed in their 50s. I wonder

TBH - I much preferred alta vista's search language to google's 'best guess' approach. I also dislike gmail's UI. I mostly stay with it because of inertia these days. DDG is nice - but needs a larger search index.

I have both HP g6 blades and Dell C6100 blades at home...you can get both for about $200/node with 2xquad core and 24G of Ram. The only real issues with them are the NOISE and the electric usage. 16 nodes sounds like your living in a
