What metric are you using for saying they are the market leader? Autopilot has been around for longer and is deployed to more cars and works in more situations than super cruise which still requires mapped roads. The only advantage I can se

The next beta is not going to use radar. Fewer sensors is much better for Tesla since they need aerodynamics and less power consumption for more vehicle range. Remember they are making a fully integrated product from the start, not bolt-on

The stuff that scares you may be the beginings of the technology thats actually needed to get to full L5. We just don’t know yet so anyone that is certain on the internet I would be skeptical of. The bet Elon is making is on pure vision whi

Yes they matter very much sometimes. A CEO like Elon with a very large depth of understanding of this problem space is going to be able to allocate resources much better than someone without any AI experience. There are many many many dead

There is also a cruise automation video showing a drive through SF where this same type of situation comes up. I believe both systems rely on HD maps and the route is planned based on the vehicles position relative to the very precise maps.

I’ve seen this in action already and it works quite well. A company called Optimus Ride is shuttling people between an apartment building and a local dc metro station on a mostly private road. I am surprised Waymo did not try to target this

They are primarily battery cell constrained at this point and also limited by not having factories in all geographic regions. They have nearly zero unsold inventory at all times. They will build cars for export to the EU early in the quarte

It’s a bit more complex then that. Tesla is acting both as the dealer and manufacturer via a direct sales model. Technically in a strict dealer model the manufacturer only sets some pricing guidelines like minimum advertised pricing and su

The latest FSD beta is now confirmed to be using the internal camera to monitor for alertness and Elon has just announced via twitter that they kicked people out of the Beta for misuse.

I don’t think the NTSB is properly weighing the safety benefits of these systems. They seem to be myopically focused on a few crashes/incidents. Cars are not planes. For better or worse we as the public have a lot more tolerance for ca

Almost everything inside a car works on 12v (door locks, windows, lights, center screen etc). They would like to move to 48v and power over ethernet however they probably have a lot of suppliers and it takes a while to get them all to switc

Since you seem to have a lot of relevant experience how likely is it that you think Waymo could ever succeed from a business perspective? As you mentioned, they are going to need quite a few vehicles and at least some form of remote monitor

Hopefully you can now move your Starlink around. Being pinned to one address greatly reduces the value of Starlink to me. I had planned to use it off-grid with an RV trailer setup.

Nickel is a lot more of a limiting factor than Lithium. This is straight from the horses mouth (Elon). See the recent news about Indonesia. Elon is always a step or two ahead.

Thank you for this comment. The average commute is like 30 miles round trip (way less with covid and wfh). Modern EVs can get an effciency of around 250Wh/mi. This works out to about an additional 7.5kWh a day. This is roughly 25% of t

IMO Germany is more set up to benefit from future developments than France and the numbers you cite may very well look a lot different in 10 years. What you are giving is a static snapshot in time where France has a mature technology that i

This is spin. Toyota is very late to EV’s having bet a lot on Hydrogen. As you will see this “next-gen” battery will be in development for at least another 5 years and probably much longer before the $/kwh is at parity with lithium ion

This is complete and utter B.S. There are dozens of reasons why Teslas are much better EV’s than competitors have come up with. Most owners (I probably know an order of magnitude more than you) are pretty clear eyed on some of the quality
