Except that the default will still be to fall back to flash. Probably most will choose flash over ogg. You think any site wouldn't include a flash fallback when IE has 60% of the market? Anyone with flash installed won't notice a thing.

Do you think the $100 + a Mac barrier has been a damper on the crowds of would be teenage app developers?

The problem I have with most language software is they don't take advantage of spaced repetition. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaced_repetition I looked at Rosetta Stone a year or two ago, and the best they had was occasionally bringing

To explain, for example, why Toyota has trouble with software in their cars and why an iPhone will outcompete any advanced Japanese phone. What about making japanese apps? There's got to be some decent potential there for the service econ

Did this guy just paraphrase the RFC? It's a lot of work, but if it gets you on HN...

Maybe it just needs simplification. How about a system to save sites as 'Apps' that open in the appropriate browser.

I don't mean it crashes. I just hate how unresponsive it is. It gives me the beachball anytime I do anything involving I/O (syncing, adding songs, retrieving album art, calculating gapless bullshit). That's bad UI programming. Do your I/O i

iTunes for Windows is by far one of the worst pieces of (major) Windows software you can possibly think of. I used to think Apple did this on purpose to spite windows users, but then I got a mac and discovered iTunes sucks on OSX too. Dam

Do it! Anki is amazing. Unfortunately, I have yet to manage to convince anyone else to use it... I can see how it can look intimidating. It's a big commitment to have to do expired flash cards every day! OTOH, things you put into Anki you c

Is there a waterfall mentality in non-tech fields still? I would assume yes, especially if there is an academic component to the field, and it's based on a social science (ie theories are unprovable). PhD's design the crap out of things,

But realistically how long will it take for canvas and HTML 5 to catch up with similar market penetration? 10 years? Certainly not less than 5.

I've noticed in the last year or so that facebook doesn't work anymore for me. I'd txt a few days after sending a party invite on facebook and people'd be like, what invite? I think facebook got filled with too much noise.

So this is using Canvas? I wonder for 2D graphics, especially for sprites you don't just use CSS, have all the blting and event handling done for you.

But you can make crap by any means, including objective-c, as evidenced by all the 'buddha quotes' etc apps. My idea is that having to pay per app published, say $25, would help disincentivize the shotgun approach.

I'm definitely noticing a lot more people carrying Android phones in the last few months. I also know people that originally wanted an iPhone, but couldn't afford it, so they got a cheap android phone. Now they're in the Android ecosystem,

I wrote my first app with phonegap. I loved it at first but moved to Titanium because PhoneGap (UIWebView) is really slow. Now doing native. Can someone point out a phonegap app that isn't trivial/doesn't suck? Also, it's a lot of work to d

I left chemistry too, but more because I couldn't handle the pressure of being able to accidentally destroy 2 weeks work with a slip of the hand. It takes balls to be a chemist.

Somehow I predict Titanium's Android support to improve greatly once they lose their primary mobile platform. Then we could write Android apps in JavaScript (yay!) Currently it's kind of a tack one.

And, obviously, such a meta-platform would be out of Apple’s control. Consider a world where some other company’s cross-platform toolkit proved wildly popular. Then Apple releases major new features to iPhone OS, and that other company’s t

I hope you're not implying that the speed of development is an indicator of bad quality. Any environment where you're working with JavaScript (or Ruby, or Python...) is going to have faster dev time than working with a compiled language. It
