Also, many many people already know JS/CSS/HTML, like me. I picked up phonegap and had my first app on the store in a week of spare time. But then I rewrote it with Titanium because it was kind of slow, which took at most another day. It fe

My opinion is mobile safari is still too slow for this. I did one and it was fine in the simulator, but lagged on iPod touch. 3GS was mostly ok. Maybe in a generation or 2. Currently sucking it up and learning ObjC

I find JavaScript and Python are more similar than they are different. Coming from Python, learned JavaScript, felt right at home. (just have to remember the vars, {}s and ;s)

I thought that rather than a general "anti-corporate picture" it was supposed to be an allegory to what actually happened in North America wrt colonization. Edit: that is, until it switches to Hollywood mode in the final battle.

It reminds me of this article from little while ago. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1169875 Nerds want every question answered with a reason, even if that question shouldn't have one. Why is Superman strong? He gets his powers from

Hmm... I'm picturing internet earthquake memes... :P This is going to sound funny, but I was taking the obvious geek approach with this, which is... make it into an iPhone app! http://www.b-rhymes.com/iphone/ How predictable am I? haha. I

Haha! I'm just learning about this. I got 1k or so from StumbleUpon in the last 2 days which has led to nothing on twitter, nothing on delicious. And my pages/visit and 'avg time on site' has dropped off. Stumblers really have low attention

Actually the metafilterers kind of did just that: http://www.metafilter.com/89217/BRhymes The problem is I'm just a geek with an algorithm that's kind of fun, definitely not a rapper poet. I like the twitter idea though. Definitely worth

I'm sort of in the middle of this with my much-more-niche fun-side-project site http://www.b-rhymes.com (while we're whoring). It's an algorithmic rhyming dictionary. It's post metafilter spike. Twitter chain reaction has died. Not sure w

How about ask someone in the neighborhood. I've had good experiences going to new area and asking locals where I should eat. People take a lot of pride in their neighborhoods and are more than happy to help.

I'm not sure I get the lambda issue. If you want a > 1 line lambda why not just define a function? def a(x): def b(): print x return b Not sure what a prototypical ruby usecase would be.

The first 2 maybe... the rest though are pretty nitpicky. Surely there are more important criteria for selecting a language than minor syntax issues.

I'm going the opposite way! Python/Django dev moving to PHP from small and/or CMS type projects. I'm really liking Kohana (a fork of codeigniter) as a Rails/Django etc type RAD framework for PHP.

What do you do when you have a web app, rather than content, and there's not that much text to drop your keywords around in. I guess have a blog that talks about your subject matter?

    1) this is very similar to smart.fm, which has been around for a year or so now. 2) I just did the first level. It'd be pretty difficult for someone who didn't know anything about mandarin to get anything out of that. If you really want to

I've tried Rosetta, smart.fm, others that score you based on your input, but by far the simplest and best method I've found is using Anki, which just asks you 'did you remember it?' and it's up to you to answer truthfully. http://ichi2.net

The last company I worked for had these '360' performance reviews where you get reviewed by a few coworkers as well as your boss. Also there was no money involved. I thought it worked really well. While you'd hope your coworkers would give
