But how often do you and your family make any meaningful use out of it? A pattern I've seen is that people join, have an active wall for a couple weeks and then they just go back to using sms and email for keeping in touch with each other.

I check my facebook account quite often but don't actually use it for anything. Only about 5% of my friends frequently update their status. It is strange how the habit has remained with me despite the content being no longer relevant to my

Not sure why this comment was downvoted so much, it does a good job of summarizing an ancient world view which goes against our current scientific one. The ancient idea being that one's virtue is connected to one's vitality. Topics like vir

If you were seldom in bed by 10 and your friends were the same, it is unlikely that high school students today will do any different. Why not propose a solution based on what people generally do rather than telling them what they should d

Makes me think of how many times per day I check my facebook page for no reason at all (except that I'm bored or looking for a distraction). I guess facebook really is the new TV. In fact, after seeing the word "facebook" in this thread, I

University is a good way to meet people with similar interests. You may also have a couple professors that inspire you in some way. But the other 80% of it is a waste of time. It's like a job; you could learn things on your own much faster

I liked the article because it conveys the message that most self-help drivel is at the level of a 12 year old. Although I'm not sure that is what the author intended to point out.

Certificates are relevant to non-hackers that want to build a career in IT. The companies that care about certificates are most likely companies that hackers wouldn't want to work for. Also it is interesting how the attitude conveyed in thi

I don't understand the criticism here. "It turns out that X" is just another way of asserting that "X" is true. And a writer does not have to justify all of his assertions. An unjustified assertion could merely be just another premise for t

If we accept this writer's theory, it would be more plausible to say that women desire to get impregnated by jocks (w/ physical strength and social intelligence) but then have their kids raised by geeks (w/ money and abstract intelligence).

Good overall point of view. But the author sounds like he's talking to his mother, not his wife. You have to be authoritative if you're going to undertake something that goes against the norm.
