I thought meditation historically has mostly happened in seclusion from nature, in temples, monasteries, bedrooms, etc. Going indoors to sit in meditation isn't a "Western" phenomenon!

There have always been meditation teachers, practice programs, books, all kinds of materials. Monasteries are like huge complicated frameworks for meditation. In our culture we instead have apps. Maybe that's kind of lame, but it is wh

I suspect a decent approximation would be something like a 3-step Markov chain based on all 12 transpositions of a bunch of genre songs?

It was okay but basically you just enter the subway station and go through a locked heavy door to a slightly creepy corridor with a dozen small rooms serving as rehearsal spaces. The owner had barred the toilet door so on entering you would

I was only doing linear interpolation between the manually set sync points. In my tests I would usually need to put a sync point per verse, or so. The karaoke ball you see in the video was fun to make although I never got it quite perfect.

Looks really nice! A few years ago I started working on a vaguely similar tool because I was playing in a band and we needed a better way to collaborate on chord sheets. I used CouchDB (and PouchDB) to get a nice real-time sync for editing

Writing applications or tools in GNU Emacs is kind of nice, but the programming paradigm is something like “textual buffers manipulated by imperative routines backed by some global dynamically scoped variables” which has its beauty and char

I think a lot of programming could be described as "formalizing the logic of a business" which is a very strange and interesting problem. Programming also involves things like "formalizing and automating the representation of

If I were single, I’d go stay at a particular Zen-inspired meditation retreat center farm that I’ve lived at before between jobs. It’s a nice lifestyle of meditation, cooking/eating/cleaning, drinking tea, farming, etc.

I basically think software intelligence will not resemble human intelligence until it is embodied in the same body and social upbringing as humans—like, I don’t think you can actually fake it. I think you can make a software intelligence th

How do you see the influence of the Heideggerian critique of cognitivism, via Hubert Dreyfus, on the "Heideggerian AI" movement which preceded the shift away from classical symbolic AI towards connectionism and embodied learning?

Isn't that really hard to implement correctly in Common Lisp? Your macro would need to perform a continuation-passing style transformation on arbitrary code that could involve jumps, error, etc.
