I was only doing linear interpolation between the manually set sync points. In my tests I would usually need to put a sync point per verse, or so. The karaoke ball you see in the video was fun to make although I never got it quite perfect. The chord sheet is just a flexbox with wrapping and the ball is a CSS animation; the JavaScript only moves it from div to div once per measure.
