In the enterprise I see this all the time. Step one of the project is lets look at kubernetes or whatever is hot lately. Even for something stupid with 10k users max. What they actually need is a 30 line terraform script and a preconfigured

It’s a bit like saying the world would be better off if we went back to pre industrial revolution practices.

I spent an amazing 5 years in GE Digital and then GE Corporate. It was chaotic to say the least but I loved it. Great people and insane projects.

I have worked with many fine people that I liked quite a bit on a personal level, but were not very good technically. It is a very dangerous situation to allow yourself and your employer to go along with. Over time you will have a team full

Well lets see. It started off as JDK 1.0. The became J2SE 1.2. Then later Java SE 6. That took like a decade. Then they had sporadic releases for 5 years or so. Now they want a release every 6 months. Never mind the licensing/ownership

The longstanding disaster of Java version numbering and licensing continues. How long until they reverse course on this? I don’t know of any other popular language with a such a sordid history in these areas.

I think a highly conscientious developer might feel all these emotions. However, I am sure we have all worked with the developer that is absolutely shameless.

I just spoke to somebody today and their strategy is to hire within a geographic region. Everybody will be default remote but they will be getting the team together 4-6 times a year on site for planning and social stuff. I could see this be

We need a dramatically overhauled taxation system. We should stop using taxes as a cudgel to promote political agendas or enforce moral virtues.

The video of them cutting the steak with the wooden knife shows extremely poor performance. The steak was torn apart more so than sliced. There is no way the knife in the video is “three times sharper” than a typical stainless steel kitchen
