I don’t think it’s good for employees to joke about either. I worked with a guy that was constantly half joking about getting fired, layoffs, etc. It’s a real drag to hear about all the time.

They won’t investigate child abuse but they will hatch a plot for a soft coup, a domestic terrorist kidnapping plot, or send a dozen agents to investigate a garage door rope.

I would say more important than the experience of the team is their ability to work in a self directed fashion. I have had interns that work very well on their own, and I have had 20+ year veterans that need regular hand holding.

It’s a very interesting approach but makes some sense. When it comes to failures the two big cohorts are “crib deaths” and “old age”. By picking something that flew twice they are able to pick a machine still early in its life cycle but sur

More proof that these platforms have zero content moderation and actually do not give a shit until somebody notices. I don’t see how such examples make their content policies and enforcement thereof highly questionable within the legal syst

I don’t work in big tech but I do work in big industry. In my experience you need to have the ability to go hard and put the team on your back when it is actually necessary. You equally need the ability to turn it off and put work back in i

That’s a good point. If it were possible to successfully “railsify” the front end that would be amazing.

That has been the most disappointing thing to me with rails. The ruby part of it is so nice. The front end has always made me feel doubtful. It’s not really the rails team fault that the frond end landscape is so tumultuous.

Every administration in my lifetime has done this. Taking credit for certain things and shifting blame for others is not unusual. The state of the economy is the most shining example.

This will end up teaching "news literacy" just like how the "Patriot Act" was, you know, patriotic, and the "Affordable Care Act" made health care affordable.

Just because you can bring in some infrastructure level tool to ensure that “X always happens” does not mean it is necessarily a good idea. If you have a small team, small budget, tight timeline, etc. it could serve as a major distraction w

Imposter syndrome is the gluten allergy or OCD self-diagnosis of the tech world. People should just get over themselves. You have a skillset that commands a high salary? Congrats. Get to work.

Carbon taxes disproportionately hurt low income people. Rich folks will still drive their cars, fly on jets, and use tons of energy in general. Carbon taxes also make your nation less competitive in a global economy. That’s not good when en
