I am still looking for a simple tool to deduplicate, organize, and tag all the photos I have accumulated over the years. Old laptop hard drives, old cell phones, iPhoto libraries, aperture libraries, etc. I want to dump them into a staging

Edit: also, if you have $500k liquid you could invest it in something like QYLD and draw roughly $5k/mo and try taking a sabbatical for a year.

I think this is a pretty normal feeling to have. For myself it was a fine line between “accepting reality” and actual depression. Getting older and realizing half of your life is behind you is not the most uplifting topic. So that would be

Why do they need the government to do this? Just ban them from your particular business and move on. It’s their right as a business to deny service. Every day we are inching closer to a Chinese style centrally managed social credit system.

These are so disingenuous. It’s like comparing aggregate schooling scores between the US and some Scandinavian country and concluding that every kid in America gets a worse education. False. If you were to constrain for home life (two paren

I worked in cyber security at a major industrial company for 5 years. Yes “insider threat” is a very real concern and people get busted exfiltrating company data all the time.

Spending a few weeks on exploratory or speculative work is not really a huge time commitment. If it was going to drag on for months I would question it. I also challenge the “deliver in small PRs” idea. Yes in practice that would be ideal.

I hope they stick to it. It takes a long time to put down roots. People were dismissive of intellij and jetbrains, but look at them now.

It’s baffling that people have such a persistent and romantic fascination with regressive technology. Why enjoy whole home climate control when you can dress up like Nanook of the North while indoors and sit on hot water bottles? Why is the

It’s not a conspiracy theory. The number of reports to VAERS, which is the best data we have on population wide side effects, has been growing rapidly. To be fair it will be very hard to tease out strong evidence from that data set, but dir

It’s incredible how quickly pharmaceutical companies rehabbed their deservedly awful reputation by using the pandemic. Years from now, maybe decades, I’m sure we will find out there were very troubling results from the clinical trials that

I think the absolute glut of new music available makes it hard for me to seek out and find new artists. Even with the help of spotify and pandora. Also driving to and from work was where I sampled a lot of new music, and that has gone away

Having seen how bastion hosts or “jump boxes” work inside the enterprise I share your view. In practice they are generally not very well protected and are a very attractive target for attackers. It’s better to use a privileged session manag

They did the same thing with the Lexus LFA. They just bought the cars in the name of a business and sold the business. Problem solved for the flippers. I think the best solution is to allow dealers to sell them at MSRP and select buyers via
