I used to think that. But I now realize there will always be people having a job in said datacenter who will try to prevent that. As long as the AI pays it's minions well , people, will do their job. But AIs need such ridiculously c

It will be a death by a 1000 papercuts. It started with the 'filter bubble' (imho the most dangerous invention/discovery for humanity ever ), then it leveled up to 'propaganda leveraging the filter bubble' and now w

govts should be forbidden from using X. Or any other commercial for-profit message service. It's not like one-way communication is a hard problem. Just post that stuff on a website ffs!

Google has always been like this. I used to have a Youtube account with timelapse movies from my holidays. Nothing special, just stuff to show the family, but it was a lot of work to edit and upload them all. One day I got a message that my

That's what I meant when stating 'the exact frequencies are culturally defined'. There are lots of tuning systems. Equal temperament is just 12 (logarithmic) equal steps. But other tuning systems use different priorities. The

I agree that this is often the situation in practice. I feel it's kind of bleak to just accept that status quo. Democracy lost? Back to the medieval system of nobles and serfs? Where having money means having rights? We don't live

I'd like my e-reader to show up as a printer, and when I print something on it it actually gets saved as a pdf on the reader. Like in the article, but multi-page pdf. I often do 'print to A5 pdf => copy pdf to e-reader'.

printing has never really been a thing from text editors I think. Used to be that printing a text file was just `cat myfile.txt > /dev/lp0` . It has been a while since I printed a plain text file, but I guess there's still

Copyright is good. It's the justice system letting money buy it's way out of enforcement that is bad. If you create something you should have some protection of other people just blatantly ripping you off. Copyright terms are in

You can re-train your ear of course. But on average a lot of people used to western music feel that classical arabic/indian music with half/quarter tones in it sounds 'out of tune'/wrong. I really like classica

There are ways to passively cool a house without airco. People have been building cool houses in hot climates for centuries. It doesn't always work, true. Once it is hot 24/7 and you don't have a source of cold anywhere you

The main reason for me to use GrapheneOS would be to sever the umbilical cord to google. I don't really see the point of using GrapheneOS instead of Stock Android if I then have to use the play store.

Meh. Luanti is nearly as old as minecraft itself. You could say just as well that they copied the style of infiniminer. If your whole shtick is creating blocky games with retro-easy-to-recreate 8x8 or 16x16 textures it's not really wei

Nothing ironic about that. Using an airco to cool a house is often (not always) a luxury that humans did without for centuries. So people are used to seeing cooling as luxury. Without heating you die. A heatpump is more energy efficient th
