I have Kaiser through my employer and I like it a lot. Maybe they don’t have the shiniest and best but it’s solid, simple and predictable.

Hospitals are for-profit but with no price transparency. So they can make profit but their customer (patient) has no chance to make an informed choice.

“If I went as a contactor in the UK id expect 2x to 3x when compared to a FTE at a similar grade.” At least in the US that’s often not how it works. The agency takes a big cut and the contractor probably makes less than an FTE. In my compan

I think if there were more primary care doctors people wouldn’t go to emergency rooms. You shouldn’t have to go to an ER if you have fever.

I would hope that maybe people will become more aware of work conditions that lead to burnout. Harassment is not OK anymore, so are a lot of other negative behaviors, maybe people will become aware of the dangers of overworking.

A lot of dangerous, stressful or painful experiences are fun as long as you know you are getting out Ok on the other side. People would probably enjoy it much less if there was a chance that they may get killed in that machine.

I also generally have had good success with guessing a number and then multiplying it by 5 to get the time when it’s completely done, tested and documented.

I understand that estimates are important and I give estimates. But recently in my company it’s fashionable to talk about “commitments” and I won’t give those. In my view this is just a way to get overtime and weekend work out of people onc

I passionately hate being asked for "commitments". If it's stuff of any reasonable complexity or novelty I will have no idea how long it will take and therefore can't make any commitments. The only thing I can commit to

Windows paths can be really infuriating. We constantly run into problems with the 255 file name length limit and even if you use the APIs to create longer paths then Explorer or other apps can't deal with these names. It's hard to

Also tell them about phone scams. Over the last year I have received several very convincing phone calls and voice messages from people pretending to be the IRS or cops. It takes a lot of willpower to convince yourself that they are scams.

Should we also abandon the regulation on not stealing things? It makes my startup idea much more difficult too. Individuals' rights over their data should just be another human right like property rights and not being harmed by others.

Seems this tends to go exactly the way Scrum and Agile did. If done correctly by the whole company it works well. But in most cases it will probably be a mandate by top management and the rest has to come up with some nonsense metrics and o

That’s a huge problem with the whole idea of providing value to the business. Some people can show real metrics but a lot of us are several layers away from anything quantifiable so either you have nothing to show or you have to make up som
