"now when I get in I just want to veg with a book as I'm mentally spent." That's me. I think it's age but a job where I am more active and/or outside would help for sure. When I worked as mechanical engineer I

“but the government will probably take credit for that like usual.” It doesn’t really matter as long as things are improving. Go ahead and credit the free market if it makes you feel better.

I guess best would be if every can of soda had a picture of the amount of sugar in it. That may illustrate things nicely and understandably. Most people don't really connect numbers and measurements to reality.

I accept that national defense is not a profit center, neither are highways. But they are good for everybody so it's ok that the taxpayer pays for them. The same may be true for TARP but I don't like to hear that TARP made profit

Instead of getting into a new weapons race I would prefer more effort into negotiating an international agreement to not weaponize space. The stance of the US in the past few years seemed to be to produce more weapons than anybody else and

If TARP was such a great deal why did the government have to do it? Why didn't private investors jump in and support the banks?

When I was a kid we had a horse at a farm where they also had some goats. I can totally see the Brenda story in those goats. They have a talent for mischief and are very smart and brave in their own way. Definitely a lot of fun if you have

Agreed. Sometimes I feel like I am wasting my life solving business problems I don’t really care about and nobody close to me understands even remotely.

“Putting warnings on things and measuring the change would be a great place to start.” From what I see people see the warnings and calories counts and they know that these foods are not good. But they really don’t seem to know how to eat r

Do these warnings actually do anything? In CA almost anything has a cancer warning. I don’t even look at them anymore. To me these warnings are a way to say “we are doing something “ but I doubt they really have an effect. Considering how

"Would there have been any way to see this coming?" Stuff like this is pretty much guaranteed to happen in places that sit on a lot of data. The only question is whether it get noticed and then published.

I think one thing is clear: In the 90s Congress + President didn't fuck it up whereas current Congress + President decided to increase deficits in good times which will make it very hard to respond to any downturn.

It has to come from politics. Capitalism unregulated will pretty much always lead to a few accumulating more and more and increasing their power.
