This is the first CSS tutorial that explains _why_ CSS works a certain way. I think so many new devs struggle with CSS because they don't understand why it is the way it is, which helps explain how it is supposed to be used.

tables are still relevant for layout if you work with email at all. In fact, if you want to be able to do email well, you have to be able to do layout like it was 10-20 years ago. There's also lots of legacy code out there to be workin

Been working with multiple document API's recently for my start-up. It's been a real challenge to understand how different document stores compare -- Confluence uses undocumented XML markup that "mostly" mirrors HTML, Go

I have to give a shoutout to the dev who wrote Nishan, a wrapper around Notion's internal API used by their webapp. I've been using it for a while and it will be a long time before the public API catches up. Getting users to find

I hope so. Just one example, but when you use the API to export HTML, nested lists aren't actually nested.. they just inject increasing padding on subsequent LI tags. This is ridiculous and causes big issues for me, but I'm sure t

Why is MJML a non-option? It was a huge time saver for me. Combine it with react-mjml and you can get typesafe email templates that work in pretty much any browser. I managed templates by hand for a long time, and it took me a couple weeks

Microsoft is really killing it these past couple years. I'm still not sure I'd recommend for a tech team over OSX. But mostly because most devs now know how to deal with the issues from Brew and OSX, not so much Windows. But hell,

Not for me. I tried this with Javascript a couple years ago, and it was painful mapping to and from gRPC types everywhere. There's no "undefined" for example if you have a union type. You have to come up with a "EMPTY&qu

I completely agree with the maker's point that class names are the bane of CSS design. However, styled components have been amazing in this regard. I've tried a lot of solutions over the past 8 years and this is my favorite by far

That's not entirely true. Even if you use something as full-featured as Material UI, there's still opinions on how elements are composed, when to use font colors and sizes, etc. Without documenting what to do in common cases, ever

I think at its core, the issue is that the code has to run in many different types of hostile environments. At least now we can sort of assume what features of the language are available, but you still have no control over the browser, OS,
